COMBINED DEFENSE SERVICE EXAMINATION-UPSC
WHAT IS UPSC COMBINED DEFENSE SERVICE EXAMINATION
For recruiting into the defense power that is Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy ,Combined Defence Services” (CDS) Examination is conducted twice a year by the UPSC. With the exams being conducted in February & November the notifications for the exams starts in October and June.
Selected candidates are allotted to different branches of armed forces–
1)Indian military
2)Indian navy
3)Indian air force
4)Officers’s Trainning academy
Eligibility for CDS Examinations
Those with a bachelor’s degree can only apply for Combined Defense Service examination.
For all the three branches in Armed Forces the eligibility factors as in education,sex and marital status are bit different.
For Indian Military Academy one must have a degree from a recognised university.
For Naval Academy one must have a degree from a recognised university with physics and mathematics .
For Air Force Academy onew must possess a degree from a recognised university with physics and mathematics .

Examination Procedure and Selection
The entire process of selection involves two rounds one is written exam and another is interview. Aspirants who pass the written exam are eligible for the interview conducted by service selection center or SSC.
UPSC CDS POSTS AND SALARY RANKWISE
1) Lt. to Major- RS15,600-39,100
2) Lt. Col. to Maj Gen.–RS 37,400-67,000
3)Lt. Gen. HAG Scale– RS 67,000–79.000
4) HAG Scale*–RS 75,500–80,000
5) VCOAS/Army Cdr/Lt. Gen (NFSG) COAS— 80,000/- (Fixed) 90,000/- (Fixed)

CDS EXAM SYLLABUS
English-Know Vocabulary and Grammar.Prepare yourself by knowing various words and english grammar.
General Knowledge – For this subject you will have to know ,any things like current topics or news, history of India, geography. Read everyday newspapars.
Elementary Mathematics- This is a very important subject as it will include everything in maths .
Arithmetic, unitary method, number theory, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, theorems, mensuration, statistics etc.

Definitely the candidates applying for CDS exams will have this question in mind that what made you choose and think about this career. Firstly if you want to serve your country defense is the career option.
