Hotel Management Course Admissions:
Students who have successfully passed their 12th standard examination can pursue certificate, diploma or bachelors in hotel management. The duration of a certificate course can vary from six months to one year. Bachelor and diploma courses are usually one and half years to three years in duration. Students with a bachelor’s degree from any recognized university can opt for a post graduate diploma course the duration of which is one year. Admission is based on one’s performance in the written admission test, personal interview and group discussion.
Admission to government recognized hotel management institutes is through a common entrance test. The entrance test will have questions that assess a student’s proficiency in English, logical reasoning, mathematics, general science and general knowledge. The entrance test is of two hours in duration. It is usually held around April. Candidates who succeed in the written test are then asked to appear for an interview and group discussion session. Private institutions conduct their own entrance tests.

The Systematic Training and Education Programme (STEP) is an opportunity for students to
participate in a three-year Programme that offers practical training at a hotel of The Oberoi
Group. This training involves the four core operational departments in a hotel: Front Office,
Housekeeping , Food and Beverage Service and Kitchen. The students will be in the operational
department five-days in a week. There are two programmes offered under STEP:
The Hotel Operations Programme
The Hotel Operations Programme consists of various sections within the three major operations
departments: Food and Beverage, Front Office and Housekeeping.
The Kitchen Operations Programme
The Kitchen Operations Programme involves training in Western and Indian kitchens and
specialist operations such as bakery, pastry and cold kitchen.

The hotel that the students will be assigned for their practical training is at the sole discretion of
The Oberoi Group.
A significant benefit of joining the STEP Programme is the preferred opportunity of a career with
Oberoi Group. The Students can be offered a job as an operational assistant at any of the
hotels of the Oberoi Group. Alternatively, the students may seek entry into a two year
management training programme at Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development (OCLD).
The Cost of the programme is borne by the company. The company pays the students a
monthly allowance, fees at IGNOU, meals on duty, accommodation, reasonable medical
expenses and a monthly telephone allowance. On successful completion of the programme the
students are awarded a Bachelor of Tourism Studies (BTS) degree from IGNOU along with a
Certificate of Proficiency from the Oberoi Group for the training undergone.
• The students will have to be a class XII pass-out by July 2010
• They should be between 17 and 20 years of age as on 1 July 2010
• They must have received a minimum of 50% in their class X board examinations with a
minimum of 55% in English.
