LET US GET TO KNOW IN BRIEF ABOUT ICSE EXAMS –

The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) is an examination conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, a private, non-governmental board of school education in India, for class 10, i.e., grade 10. It has been designed to provide an examination in a course of general education,

The subjects that are offered are divided into three groups.

Group I includes Compulsory Subjects —English, History & Civics, & Geography, and Indian Language.

Group II which includes any two from Mathematics, Science (Physics, Biology, Chemistry) as separate subjects, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Agricultural Science, Commercial Studies, Technical Drawing, A Modern Foreign Language, A Classical Language and Economics,.

Group III has any one from Computer Applications, Economic Applications, Commercial Applications, Art, Performing Arts, Home Science, Cookery, Fashion Designing, Physical Education, Technical Drawing Applications, Yoga, and Environmental Applications.

  • ENGLISH-Good at grammar and vocabulary are some of the factors that help to score well in the English I and II papers.  Concentrate on your writing skills and how well you can  use English while writing the answers is also very important to excel.
  • LANGUAGE II-Scoring good marks in this paper depends on the quality of english you use ,free of grammatically errors and beautifully written with perfect vocabulary .
  • MATHEMATICS-This is one subject where if you can score full marks it automatically increases your total aggregate. Work on topics like constructions ,statistics will help increase your score.Keep all the formulae should be well revised and practice all  model questions from each topic.
  • SCIENCE-This paper has 3 sections-physics,chemistry and biology.For scoring really well in science you definitely need to work on basic concepts, definitions, experiments.For physics go through numerical problems and derivations.Whereas for chemistry give in time to structural formula of chemical compounds and balancing chemical equations. In biology concentrate on diagrams , functions of the various parts of the human body and plants and its mechanism also.
  • SOCIAL SCIENCE-This subject has geography,history & civics. For history and civics try to understand the topics rather than mugging them up whereas for geography correct map work will help you score full.
  • COMPUTER APPLICATION-To score excellent in this subject you have to be well versed with Java program writing aspect.Practice the model of the program repeatedly.
  • ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION-For this subject thorough yourself with the textbook and learn the various technical terms.

It is very well known to all that there are no shortcuts to success ,its always the long path that paves your way ahead. Do apply this to yourself when preparing for 10th icse boards. So let us discuss on some useful tips to apply while preparing for 10th icse boards::

  • Be very attentive and keep your ears open in class room when your teacher gives you running notes and explanation as that could work wonders for you later.Also never ever forget to clear all your doubts in classroom session itself.
  • The daily revision work should be done on daily basis with thorough understanding of the topics.remember last moment studies will never bring you success.
  • Always try to score good in unit exams held in school before boards so that it helps you gain confidence and also it helps in self evaluation and gives you time to prepare for topics that seems difficult.
  • Have a good understanding of the basic subject and its overall concept as it helps in undertsanding the question paper as well.
  • You might even get essay type questions for this year that came as short ones in previous year’s paper so do not get confused . Hence have a clear idea of the subject.
  • Always follow a proper study program for all subjects that should end atleast 30days prior to your boards.Always do keep in mind that you should be able to touch all the subjects atleast once.
  • It is always good to have important points and notes handy while revision as it becomes easy to remember and learn.
  • Try to solve previous 10 years question papers of icse board within a given time for practice and it will also help you understand the sample type questions.
  • Last but not the least the presentation of the answer script also carries marks so along with your answers remember to have a clean presentation on the final answer scripts.

For English – I ( 2 HOURS)

There will be 4 broad questions. A composition of 450 to 500 words, second is a letter,third is an unseen passage and related questions and fourth would be a question to test your grammar. In essay and letter section you are given a choice. Choose only those topics which you know about.

For English – II(2 HOURS)

Section – A (2 questions )

Section – B (2 questions 

Section – C (2 questions 

Section – c contains an essay type question that is most scoring in i.c.s.e. So do attempt this question(Believe me! It is the advice of many teachers)

For  MATHS    (2 1/2 HOURS)

Section – A ( 4 questions of 10 marks each = 40 marks)

Section – B ( 7 questions out of which 4 are to be solved for obtaining 40 marks)

Questions may be such that they involve more than one concept.

For HINDI (3 hours)- First section deals with Hindi Language.

It has 3 major parts –i)Essay of around 250 words

ii)Letter        iii) Unseen passage –

Second section deals with Hindi Literature in which you are supposed to answer any 4 questions from the two books you have read from.

For  PHYSICS( 1.5 hrs)  section – A  –  Short compulsory questions worth 40 marks

section – B  –  6 questions out of which any 4 are to be solved worth 40 marks.

For CHEMISTRY( 1.5 hrs) –section – A  –  Short compulsory questions worth 40 marks

section – B  –  6 questions out of which any 4 are to be solved worth 40 marks.

For  BIOLOGY( 1.5 hrs)  –section – A  –  Short compulsory questions worth 40 marks

section – B  –  6 questions out of which any 4 are to be solved worth 40 marks

For HISTORY AND CIVICS(2 hrs)–

Section – A  First part deals with small answer type ques from civics part(10 marks)

Second part deals with small answer type ques from history part (20 marks)

Section – B    First part has 3 long answer type questions from civics out of which any 2 are to be solved(20 marks)

Second part has 5 long answer type questions from history out of which any 3 are to be solved(30 marks)

For GEOGRAPHY(2 hrs)

First part has 2 questions – i) Map of India(10 marks)      ii)Survey map and its interpretation(20 marks)

Second part has 9 questions out of which 5 are to be solved(50 marks)

For . E.V.S(2 hrs)

First part has 4 compulsory questions and second part has 5 long answer type questions out of which any 4 are to be solved.

Except computers all other subjects are examined on 80 marks and 20 marks is of internal assessment(Computer is tested on 100 marks and project work is on 100 marks)
