The placement criteria for Indian Railways is classified into 2 categories.

Technical Category in Indian Railways

a) Minimum age should be 18 years and maximum age limit is 30 years
b) For Schedule Cast/Schedule Tribe candidates, 5 years of relaxation age and for Other Backwoed Class candidates, 3 years of relaxation age is allowed.
c) Candidates who are willing to apply for technical Railway exam should have degree from recognized board/Institute/University. Candidates must have typing skills in English/Hindi on Computer/Typewriter.

Non-Technical Category in Indian Railways

a) Minimum age should be 18 years and maximum age limit is 33 years.
b) For Schedule Cast/Schedule Tribe candidates, 5 years of relaxation age and for Other Backword Class candidates, 3 years of relaxation age is allowed
c) Candidates willing to apply for non- technical Railway exam should have passed in 1styear B.Sc. (Physics), 10+2 with Physics and math and ITI in Computer Networking/Data Networking/Electrician. Candidates with other degree may also apply for railway exams.
