NOT GATE AND TRUTH TABLE (DIGITAL ELECTRONICS)

To know about Not gate and truth table first of all we have to know about gate and truth table

LOGIC GATES:

  • These are the logic circuits that form the building blocks of complex digital systems which can do arithmetic and logic functions.
  • They can accept one or more input voltages but with one output voltage.
  • They work on the basis of boolean algebra.

The different types of logic gates are as follow:

  • NOT
  • AND
  • OR
  • NAND
  • NOR
  • X-OR
  • X-NOR

TRUTH TABLE:

Truth table is a table that gives output for all possible combinations of inputs to a logic circuit.

NOT GATE:

A logic gate which performs the function of logical operator NOT is called as NOT gate. Some of the function of NOT gate are as follow:

  • It performs a basic logic function called inversion or complementation.
  • The purpose of inverter is to change one logic leval to opposite leval.
  • The gate has only one input and one output.

Its symbol is,

And its truth table is,

The bubble at the end of the not gate represents a signal inversion or complimentation  of the output signal.but in some cases bubble are also present at the gate inputs to indicate an active low input. And the inversion of the input signal is not restricted up to not gate but also can be used  on any digital circuit or gate .

The logic NOT gate or invertor  can also be made using NAND and  NOR gate by connecting their all input together to a common input signal as shown in the figure below,
