RAS Prelims Exam Pattern

The Preliminary Examination consists of a single objective paper of General Knowledge and General Science. The paper carries 150 questions for 200 marks with a duration of three hours, and one third of the marks are deducted for every wrong answer. Prelims marks are qualifying in nature and are used only to shortlist candidates for the Mains, so accuracy matters more than heroics.

The syllabus places heavy weight on Rajasthan specific content, including the history, art and culture of Rajasthan, the geography and economy of the state, and current affairs of Rajasthan. Aspirants who prepare only from general India centric material routinely underperform in this exam.

A Four Month Preparation Roadmap for December 6

August: Build the Rajasthan Core

Dedicate the first month to Rajasthan History, Art and Culture, and Geography. These sections decide selection in RAS Prelims. Use Rajasthan Board books and one standard state specific guide, and prepare short notes district by district for geography.

September: Indian Polity, Economy and Science

Cover the national portion of the syllabus. Polity through Laxmikanth, economy through a single current oriented source, and science with an emphasis on everyday application questions that RPSC favours.

October: Current Affairs and First Mock Cycle

Compile twelve months of Rajasthan current affairs, including state schemes, budget announcements and awards. Begin full length mock tests on alternate days and maintain an error register.

November: Revision and Test Intensity

Three full revisions of your notes, a mock every second day, and previous year papers from at least the last eight RAS cycles. Freeze all new material by November 20 and spend the final fortnight on recall.

How Serious Aspirants Are Preparing

Many RAS aspirants prepare in parallel for the UPSC Civil Services Examination because the General Studies core overlaps substantially. If you are weighing that dual strategy, it helps to study with mentors who handle both exams; a good starting point for comparison is the best IAS coaching in Delhi, which runs dedicated guidance for state PCS aspirants alongside its UPSC batches. Before choosing any program, aspirants can also compare RAS and PCS courses, fees and reviews on The Hinduzone to find a fit for their budget and language preference.

For Rajasthan specific books, previous year solved papers and printed notes, candidates can order from the curated exam store at Examophobia rather than assembling material piecemeal.

What to Watch Next

RPSC will release the admit cards on its official portal in the weeks before the exam, and any change in schedule will be announced there first. Candidates should keep their SSO credentials handy, check the portal weekly, and ignore unverified social media forwards about date changes. The commission has already shown this year, with other exams, that it communicates revisions through formal notices only.

Final Word

With 607 vacancies, a fixed date of December 6, and a syllabus that rewards state focused preparation, RAS 2026 is a winnable exam for a disciplined candidate starting today. Four months is enough time for three full revisions if you begin this week. Build your Rajasthan core first, test yourself relentlessly in November, and walk into the hall with an error log you have already conquered.
