DUPLEXER
DUPLEXER :
One antenna is used by many radar systems to receive and transmit functions . The radars require very high power transmitters and sensitive receivers , whereas if an antenna is used by a radar it requires only a front end configuration which will connect and disconnect automatically on a pulse to pulse basis . Hence the above describes the main function of a duplexer .
The duplexer performs the following functions :
- It connects the transmitter to the antenna .
- It also connects the receiver to the antenna
- It provides isolation between the transmitter and receiver everytime .
There are three main types of radar duplexers :
BRANCHED DUPLEXERS : It was used during world war 2 and is still used today in low cost radars .One or more ATR and RP are used in branch duplexer . During the transmitter period both ATR and RP remain active and hence allows the energy transmitted to pass through the antenna with low attenuation. But during the receiver period the signals received passes through the inactivated RP . The main advantage of this type of duplexer is that it is cheap , simple and compact .
BALANCED DUPLEXERS : It is designed in many different configurations and depends upon the requirements of the system . It is also possible to use ATR tubes for switching conditions in a balanced duplexer . The main advantage of this type of duplexer is that it can handle power in necessary situations and can also operate bandwidth . The main disadvantage is its size and various port locations .
FERRITE CIRCULATORS : It is the most common component used to perform all functions of duplexing in new configured systems . This can circulate power from one port to another and hence allows it to be used as a duplexer . The main advantage is that it can handle very high power than junction circulators .
The different types of arrays are :
Linear array – The antenna array elements are arranged along a straight line plane.
Circular array – The antenna array elements in this are arranged around a circular Ring .
Planar array – In this the antenna elements are arranged over some planar
surface like for example – rectangular array
Conformal array – The antenna array elements are arranged to conform two
some non-planar surface like such as an aircraft skin.

Useful concept of duplexer mainly for Electronic and communication students as radar systems to receive and transmit function is comprised of large number of antennas which forms to make a duplexer. The main advantage of duplexer is that its very cheap.nice concept shared
