Education is one of the most vital parts of our life. India today is the second largest higher education network in the world. The Central or State Governments establish universities in India through legislation, while State Governments or private bodies/trusts set up colleges, which then affiliate with a university The structure of higher education consists of three years of education after 12 years of school education leading to arts and science and four years in professional fields like engineering and medicine. not up to the mark. 25% of the Indian population is illiterate. Only 7% of the population that goes to school manage to graduate and only 15% of those who enroll manage to make it to high school and achieve a place in the higher education system.
Challenges in the Indian Education System
We identify several reasons why people in some areas of India tend to undervalue education, which are as follows:
- The government manages around 80% of schools. Private schools are expensive and out of reach of the poor
- “Unfortunately, many families prioritize having additional breadwinners over education, forcing young children to forgo schooling and instead contribute to the family’s income.
- Rural schools and those in slum areas often struggle with inadequate infrastructure, severely compromising the quality of education provided to students.
- The teachers are not well qualified and therefore not well paid and therefore are not willing to work hard enough. This has been a classical Catch-22 problem that the government has been trying hard to fight against.
Need for a Practical Education System
Also in India, the system of education is mainly theoretical. The theory of a subject is very important, but unless and until one knows its practical application and how to apply it, education is useless.
Companies drive a practical-oriented market, and unless you demonstrate practical mastery of your subjects, companies are unlikely to select Another important step is to make education accessible to all sections of society. Firstly focus on the Right to Education Act for more focus on education becoming free and compulsory as compared to developing higher studies. Financial assistance programs, scholarships, and student loans should be expanded to help underprivileged students.
Furthermore, entrepreneurship should be more encouraging to help the students to think creatively and develop more skills and that will make them job creators rather than job seekers.
Moreover if one has theoretical knowledge, he doesn’t need to be able to do its practical, but the vice-versa is possible. So the education system in India should be changed in such a way that everyone gets an education and becomes ready to meet the current world necessities with their practical knowledge.
Conclusion:
The education system in India has come a long way, but it still has a long way to go before it can match global standards. The country needs more practical knowledge rather than theoretical knowledge. Developing skill-based and inclusive in an educational framework that prepares students for real-world challenges. By addressing issues such as bad infrastructure, lack of practical learning, and teaching standards, India can build stronger to be ready to contribute to national and global progress.

When it comes to the Indian education system, there is a lack of practical knowledge. Indian schools emphasize more on theory than the implementation of that theory and that’s why we see students struggling for getting a job even after finishing their studies with good grades.
Indian Education system needs a few major changes to bring a change in the country. India still stands behind in terms of technological expertize compared to other countries, which is also a cause of Poor Indian education system. Brain-drain is a a major problem that India has to deal with. I Hope, Some day somebody will ponder upon this matter and try to sort out the problems Indians are facing due to poor education system.

I really appreciate and agree with your thoughts. One more thing that i want to add here is the gap between the students and scholarships. I really think scholarships can be one way to encourage students to study more and more. I particularly here want to share one example as i am from social sector, i was working for one small NGO in Nagpur with students of village who were meritorious but due to money issue couldn’t get through.
