University of California, Berkeley is a centre to advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology and other areas of scholarship. They also help students in achieving education who have problem in affording so much money. They provide help through scholarships which are listed below.

Application Process for Scholarship

The candidate needs to fill up the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It can be done at www.fsfsa.ed.gov which becomes available by January 1 of each year. The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for Federal Direct Loans, Federal Work-Study, and Federal Perkins Loans. An electronic SAR will be sent from the Department of Education within a week after submitting your FAFSA. The candidate needs to read the SAR carefully for messages regarding your application status. If there are no problems with the application, the data will be submitted electronically to UC Berkeley. After receiving the data from the Department of Education, UC Berkeley will send an award notification or instructions regarding other documents which may be required.

The Scholarships Available:-

1. J. Dennis Bonney Scholarship

Provides financial assistance for residence at I-House to international students with demonstrated financial need.

2. Choksi Endowment Fund

Provides financial assistance to live at I-House to an overseas, non-immigrant graduate student who demonstrates financial need, preferably a graduate student from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Bombay or a graduate student from India, Pakistan or Bangladesh.

3. Dariush Mirfendereski Scholarship

This scholarship is intended preferably for students in the Civil Engineering department graduate program (MS, MEng, PhD, or other graduate degree) at Cal who are living at I – Houses or applying to live in I – House. If no civil engineering student can be identified, other engineering graduate students may be considered. But it is restricted to citizens of countries outside the US, who do not hold US permanent resident status, with demonstrated financial need, who may be new or existing I-House residents.

4. Mortimer Fleishhacker Scholarship

Granted for continuing the education of the international students in the financial need.

5. Simon Friedman Memorial Endowment Fund

Meant for a disabled student or scholar who demonstrates financial need.

6. International House Scholarships

Awarded to international students on the basis of financial need.

7. Rafael Rodriguez-Golden Age Scholarship

The fund provides for a full room and board grant for one entering graduate international student of great promise who may lack the financial resources to come to Cal and is deemed likely to benefit from, and contribute to, life at I-House. Recipients are selected annually by the Dean of UC Berkeley’s Graduate Division.

This scholarship is granted to undergraduate, non-immigrant international students with demonstrated academic ability as well as financial need.

10. Slusser Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to international students demonstrating their financial need.

11. 50th Anniversary Scholarship

The scholarship is open to both men and women, regardless of race, creed or national origin with demonstrated financial need. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible.

Application Process

The application process is completely online. First, the candidate needs to register with the online system. Once it has been done then can select an application from those that are currently available. The application for each term is divided into two phases. During Phase 1 of the application it is necessary to complete some general questionnaires, upload documents that verify your eligibility to live at I-House, and pay the $35 Application Fee. Then an email will be sent that verifies that you have completed Phase 1. In case of failure of receiving the email, candidate need to return to the application to ensure all steps in Phase 1 is complete.

After the application has been reviewed and approved, then a Tentative Reservation will be given and an email will be sent with instructions on how to complete Phase 2 of the application and finalize the reservation. Also a deadline will be given by which the candidate needs to complete Phase 2. During Phase 2, submission of additional information will be needed for Emergency Contacts, also the candidate need to upload a current photo, select a room and/or roommate, and accept the terms of the Housing Offer. The final step to completing the reservation by submitting a $1000 prepayment and security deposit.
