Introduction:

With the increasing popularity of telecast media, the task of news reading and presenting a program has become more challenging. Now, a news reader or a program presenter is not only required to provide information, but also inform in an entertaining manner. TV News Anchor / Program Anchor is a person, who presents news, programs of any kind – whether it is film-based program, comedy show, reality show, crime-related reports. He is basically a mediator between the channel and the audience. A good TV anchor needs to be enthusiastic, passionate, energetic, dynamic and vivacious. A news anchor needs to understand his responsibility and ought to impart factual correct factual information, without exaggerating facts. A TV anchor should be a reservoir of knowledge, should have awareness of the current political scenario and should have detailed knowledge of issues.

Eligibility:

The eligibility for opting anchoring as a course is that the student should have completed his/her 10+2.

Job Prospects:

Anchoring has wide scope as a career avenue with the constant launch of various news, infotainment and entertainment channels. With the flood of realities shows, chat shows, music shows etc. demand for experienced anchors is immense. Most anchors begin their career through trial and error method-working at small broadcast stations, sometimes as reporters. Gradually after gaining experience, move on to larger stations ortelevision networks . Program/news anchors specialize in news or entertainment programs such as award functions, music and dance shows, comedy shows, reality shows, cookery shows etc.

Remuneration:

For  an Anchor salary in not a constraint. Salary varies according to news channel, performance and experience. Salary in local channel will be less compared to national channels. Generally anchors in local channel get a starting salary range of Rs.8,000- Rs.12,000 per month. In this sector sky is the limit you can earn as you are proven your talent. Once you gain experience in this field salary can be more than Rs.30,000.
