Dust Collector

Dust Collector

OVERVIEW:

A Dust collector is a system which used to enhance the quality of air released from industrial and commercial processes by collecting the dust particles and other impurities from air or gas. It is basically designed to handle the high-volume dust loads. A dust collector system mainly consists of a blower, a dust filter, filter-cleaning system and a  dust removal system. It is different from air cleaners, which are used as disposable filters to remove dust particles.

WORKING PRINCIPLE:

In generally works much like a vacuum cleaner on an industrial scale. However, within a central system a powerful fan creates suction force throughout a large system of duct-work that runs throughout the plant. It mainly focus to specific area of the facility where dust is generated. The suction pulls in the dirty air through the duct-work part and eventually leads to the dust collector part.
In a fabric collector the dirty air is carefully cleaned of harmful particles. The system  protects  environment by preventing the release of harmful pollutants. And workers’ health is also taken under consideration by limiting their exposure to harmful substances.

TYPES:

Here the main types of industrial dust collectors are discussed:

1) Inertial separator
2) Fabric filter
3) Wet scrubber
4) Electrostatic precipitator
5) Unit collector

Lets have a look to one of it:

Inertial Separator

Inertial Separator

Inertial separators:

It separates dust from gas streams with help of  a combination of forces. The forces such as centrifugal, gravitational force and inertial force. These forces move the dust to a place where the forces exerted by the gas stream are minimal. Then the separated dust is moved  into a hopper by gravity where it is stored temporarily.

The three types of inertial separators are:

>>Settling chamber
>>Baffle chamber
>>Centrifugal collector

Neither settling chambers nor baffle chambers are generally used in the minerals processing industry. But their principles of operation are incorporated into the design of more efficient dust collector.

Settling Chamber

Settling Chamber

1. Settling chamber:

It consists of a large box installed in the duct-work system. The increment of cross sectional area at the chamber, reduces the motion of the dust-filled airstream and heavier particles are settled out.

2. Baffle chamber:

It uses a fixed baffle plate that causes the conveying gas stream to make a sudden change in direction. Large-diameter particles just do not follow the gas stream but continue into a dead air space and then settle. Baffle chambers are mainly used as pre-cleaners.

3. Centrifugal collector:

Centrifugal Collector

Centrifugal Collector

It uses cyclonic action to separate dust from the gas stream. In a typical cyclone dust gas stream enters at an angle and is spun fastly. The centrifugal force created by the circular flow throws the dust particles towards wall of the cyclone.

APPLICATION:

Dust collectors are used in various processes to either recover valuable granular solid or powder from process streams. It also remove granular solid pollutants from exhaust gases prior to venting to the atmosphere. It is an online process for collecting  process-generated dust from the source point continuously. These collectors may be of single unit construction or a group of devices used to separate particulate matter from the air. They are used as air pollution control device to maintain air quality.

My company manufactures and supply consumables like dust collector bags, cages, venturii, solenoid valves etc for dust collector bag-houses for pollution control as well as product recovery to various process industries such as cement, power, steel etc. I am looking for books related to the subject matter to equip myself more about this field.
