WHAT IS THE EXAM SYLLABUS FOR TOEFL

EXAM SYLLABUS FOR TOEFL-The TOEFL exams consists of two types -internet based(IBT)  and paper based. (PBT).The syllabus for both the types are:-

TOEFL-IBT SYLLABUS–  This is part of exam is internet based and it consists of four sections – reading,writing,listening,speaking..

Reading—this consists of 3 to 4 passages with around 36-56 questions and the student need to answer all of them within a time duration of  1hr to 1 hr 20 mins.

Listening–For this section the student need to pay attention and listen to academic lectures and discussions and then answer . It contains 34-51 questions and takes around 60 to 90 mins.

Speaking– This section has in total 6 tasks to be done with expressing opinions to speaking based on the reading & listening tasks within 20 mins.

Writing– this section has two tasks which involves writing answers to essays that are based again  on  reading & listening tasks within 50 mins.

 

TOEFL -PBT SYLLABUS – This part of TOEFL  test is paper based and it consists of four sections – reading,listening, written  & structure expressions and writing.

READING-Within this section the student needs to read a passage and also about its important details with main facts . The purpose also needs to be identified. This particular module consists of 5 passages with 50 questions within a duration of 55 mins.

LISTENING-This section evaluates the student’s listening skills. In this categoy the student must be able to understand the passage. It consists of 45 to 75 questions and time limit is 30 to 40 mins

WRITTEN & STRUCTURE EXAMINATION- This section comprises of two tasks where the student need to complete sentence with proper grammar and in the second task identify the errors in grammatical English . This section consists of 40 questions within 25mins.

WRITING- In this section TOEFL assesses the student’s writing skills and also the student shows his or her passage understanding in an essay form within a time duration of 30 mins.

HOW DO I START PREPARING FOR TOEFL?

While preparing for TOEFL there are two different ways by which a student can prepare that is self study and coaching classes.Though both these method are considered to be very unique and both are better . Yes it is a costly test and if money is an issue then nothing better than self study with the help of TOEFL books and study materials. If required you might even get enroll yourself for a TOEFL coaching class .
