The IBPS Clerk Mains 2016 exam is scheduled to take place on 31st December onwards. The IBPS Clerk Mains exam is obviously going to be very different from the Clerk Prelims exam. The major differences are going to be:

English – How to Prepare for IBPS Clerk Mains

The english section can be very scoring for you if you study strategically in these crucial days. Here are certain rules that you should follow while studying English:

#1. Read a Newspaper daily. In these reading sessions,

  • try to re-title news and editorial articles
  • make sure you learn to quickly grasp the main idea of various edtorial articles
  • note down new terms and phrases and find out their meanings, synonyms/antonyms, etc. to strengthen your vocabulary

#2. While practicing or taking Mock Tests, develop a habit of reading the questions before skimming through the passage. This will help you deduce the central idea and spot answers more quickly. Chances are that you will be given a tough passage based on banking and finance, social issues, (poverty, education, etc.), economy, geo-politics, etc. in the exam. So practice accordingly.

#3. For honing your grammatical proficiency, read some articles on Error Spotting, Active Passive Voice, Commonly confused terms, Expert Tips to solve Para Jumbles, etc.

  • No Para Jumbles appeared in the Prelims paper. So there is a chance that you will be given Para Jumbles in the Mains exam.

General Awareness – How to Prepare for IBPS Clerk Mains

In General awareness (GA) questions, you either know the answer or you don’t. There is no scope to deduce the answer by just reading the question. However, you can still find the general awareness section confusing as the options can be closely inter-related sometimes.

Most of the GA questions in the IBPS Clerk Mains exam will be related to Banking, Finance and Economy. In the time that you have until the exam, make sure you have the knowledge about:

  • Finance Committees and related reforms since last 2 years
  • Changes in Growth Rate of various sectors and parts of the economy – Agriculture, Industry, EX-IM, etc.
  • Basic Macroeconomic Concepts like CAD, Foreign Trade, etc.
  • Reforms in RBI Monetary Policy since last year.
  • Important Banks and their headquarters.
  • Important Financial Institutions (Indian and International).
  • Micro and Macro Financing Institutions in the country and Rural Banks
  • Budget of last 2 years.

Also cover static GK mainly pertains to Culture, Indian History, Geography (India+World), Environment, Economy and Polity. Instead of cramming mindlessly, make notes and mindmaps to remember facts, chronology of events, cause and effect, etc. Doing this will also make your revision process quicker. Attempt at least 50 questions of GA everyday within 30 minutes.

Quants – How to Prepare for IBPS Clerk Mains

Quantitative Ability is a section that calls for unabated practice. You need to focus on these topics from Quants, in the following manner to effectively prepare for IBPS Clerk Mains 2016:

#1. Number Series + Simplification – Since you have already practiced these topics for Prelims exam, solving these questions in just the Mock Tests would suffice. However, if you feel the need, solve around 10 extra number series questions daily.

#2. DI – In addition to Data Interpretation questions that you solve in Mock Tests, solve 2 questions daily until you achieve expertise in these topics.

#3. Quadratic Eqns – Practice 5-10 questions daily of comparison between x and y.

#4. Averages, Percentages and Ratio & Proportion – These are the topics that you need to practice frequently for shrinking your calculation time in DI, Profit and Loss, etc. topics.

#5. Mensuration – There is a good chance that you will find questions involving either 3-D figures or complicated 2-D figures, in the paper.

#6. Profit & Loss – Practice problems that involve partnership concept, the most. However, do make sure not to leave out other types of questions.

#7. Speed, Time and Distance – Try to practice as much trains & boats questions that you can. Practicing these will speed up your calculation and you will find yourself arriving at solutions more quickly.

#8. Algebra – Practice problems on Ages, more than otehr types of questions.

#9. Interest & Time and Work – You should focus on problems based on “Pipes & Cisterns” and “Work & Efficiency”. Clear your concepts of Compound Interest and practice questions based on mixed problems (SI + CI)

#10. Mixture Problems – Apart from the Mock Tests, make sure to practice at least 200-300 problems in the time you have until the exam.

#11. Permutations & Combinations and Probability – Practice from Mock Tests and Previous Years’ Papers.

Reasoning – How to Prepare for IBPS Clerk Mains

After you clear your concepts regarding these, move on to other topics like Series, Analogy, Direction & Distances, Blood Relations and Oredering & Ranking. Post covering these topics, move on to Syllogisms, Coded Inequalities, Analytical Decision Making, Input-Output, etc.

Also, recently in IBPS PO exam, in syllogism questions, the conclusion was given in the question and a set of statements were the options. Therefore, be prepared to find similar changes in the set pattern of the exam.

As per our experts, there will be 2-3 questions based on Verbal Reasoning in the exam. The best way to prepare this topic would be by practicing questions similar to the ones that you find in Mock Tests.

Note: While practicing, your aim is to be able to attempt at least 20-30 questions in 20 minutes with reasonable accuracy.
