AIR 3 IAS TOPPER PRATIBHA VERMA

BIOGRAPHY AND INTRODUCTION

Pratibha Verma has secured All India Rank 3 and she is the first girl to score the position of topper among others in the UPSC examination 2019.She cleared it in her 3rd attempt only. She belongs from Sultanpur, Uttar pradesh. She graduated from IIT Delhi and got campus placement in Vodafone where she worked for 1 year. She is a genius from early childhood and had topped in her 12th class in the whole district. It was her father, Subhansh Verma’s dream, who is a teacher, for her to become an IAS. He had always thought that she could clear the examination because of her brilliant mind. So she left her job and in 2016 came back to Delhi for her preparation of UPSC exams. Her mother, Usha Verma is also a teacher and she always believed that she is a genius only because of her hardwork as the more you study the sharper your mind gets.

PREPARATION PLANS OF PRATIBHA

Pratibha had also given IIT exam and cleared it too. She was great in science and her physics was also excellent. At first she did not know what UPSC was so she started studying about it and after that she started preparing for it.She also chose physics as her optional subject which people rarely choose as it is extremely difficult to crack UPSC exam with science subjects. Her friends were also preparing for UPSC and they helped her alot in her preparation. She did not get selected in her first attemp, but she immediately realised her mistakes. In her second attempt, she got a rank of 489 and got selected in Indian Revenue Services but she was not satisfied with it. She tried for the 3rd time and got an AIR 3. She was motivated by the responsibilities and authorities an IAS officer has that would help her in doing something better for her country.

In UPSC CSE 2019 Plutus IAS has Given Maximum Selection the IAS Exam. Out of 80 students, 43 have cracked the IAS Exam.

INSPIRATION AND MOTIVATION

She was also inspired by the other women officers and thought that if they can do it, i can do it too. She did not expect at all that she would get a rank 3 and she did not even know about it until her friend told he. When she came to know, she was speechless and surprised. Even Yogi Adityanath himself tweeted on her becoming an IAS, and many others. She had been trying hard for 4 years and finally got selected. Many people give up on their hopes thinking that they cannot do it, but self motivation is the key to success and you need to keep reminding yourself that you can do it. Pratibha was also demotivated sometimes but she had the support of her father, mother and friends and she did not give up and finally achieved AIR 3

STRATEGY

She said that she wanted to work for women empowerment and child related issues especially in Uttar Pradesh. Pratibha has always been a very displined child. Her mother always believed that every child is capable of achieving his goals, he just needs to work hard. She says that key to crack the exam is consistency, where other students prepare for prelims, mains and interviews differently. The syllabus that is prepared for prelims is also useful for the interview round. She also read newspapers and watched news to stay upto date with the current affairs, which helped her in her interview round. They asked about India’s clashes recently with China and other relations with other neighbouring countries. She also suggested to read NCERT books thoroughly to refresh the basic concepts related to your subject. She further added that candidates should focus on the areas they are weak at and conduct mock tests to practice thoroughly. Thus, her hard work, discipline and her strategies to prepare for the exam have helped in achieving her goal and her hard work for her success will keep on motivating her to work for the betterment of the country.
