RECOMMENDATION FOR PREPARATION AND BOOKS
He says that, to be successful, it is very important to be disciplined, consistent and patient. He suggests to the students that self study is a better option for learning and also gives better results. He also says that mainly the NCERT books of 6th to 12th and government provided resources have proven to be more helpful than the other guides as these books cover the basic topics and have more brief and accurate information. He refers to some other books like Laxmikant for polity, Spectrum for history etc. Other main sources for his enlightenment are goverment websites, publications, annual reports. He says that reading newspapers is better than magazines and staying upto date with the current affairs have also helped him alot for his prelims, mains and interview round. He also says to read any newspaper with consistency as it will help in developing your chain of thoughts.
IAS topper also adds that he preffered sticking to limited resources to gather information because to o many resources can confuse you as the syllabus is quite vast. He suggests to revise indefinitely from those few resources as this will help you in remembering them and only then you can attempt for the answers. He did most of the preparations for the mains and everything is studied mains oriented only. For the prelims, he started studying only 50 days before it as he believes that the syllabus for prelims can be covered in these many days. The main preparation is for the mains only especially your optional subject. Himanshu Jain advises that a study of 6-8 hours is enough for a day. Above else, everyone has a different strategy , this one suited the best for him. So everyone should study according to the strategy which best suits them. His strategy might be a guidance but its not a specific rule that everyone should adopt a particular strategy only. For general studies he prefers to open the terms of the syllabus and find current affairs related to the terms as much as you can, only from the authentic sources. His own practice was solely based on the rajyasabha TV debates and as well as the static portion he found himself. He says that the paper is entirely based on the current affairs.
He gives the credit for his success to his family and his himself so proud of fulfilling his and his grandfather’s dream. It is all his hardwork and his family’s motivation that has helped him in not giving up and keep working hard.
