c) Section-B:Attempt any six questions.( 60 marks)

Question 1

a) Name the following: [5 Marks]
i) The onset of menstruation in a young girl around the age of 13 years.
ii) The part of the chloroplast where the light reaction of photosynthesis takes place.
iii) The condition of a plant cell when it cannot absorb no more water.
iv) A neurotransmitter stored at the terminal end of axon.
v) The part of the ovary that produces progesterone.

b) State whether the fallawing statements are true or false.If false, rewrite the correct statement by changing the first word only: [5 Marks]
i) Hormonal response is slower than nervous response.
ii) Chromosomes are the hereditary vehicles passed on from daughter cells to parent cells.
iii)Guttation is the loss of water in the form of water droplets from hydathodes.
iv) The Beta cells of the pancreas secrete insulin.
v)The thickened wall on which embryo gets embedded is called endometrium in the ovary.

c) Give the exact location and function of the following: [5 Marks]

d) Given below are five sets of terms. In each case, arrange and rewrite each set so as to be in logical sequence. [5 Marks]

c) Given below are five sets with four terms each. In each set one term is odd. Choose the odd one out of the following terms given and name the category to which the others belong:  [3 Marks]
i) ACTH,LH,TSH,ADH
ii) Glucose, Glycogen, Cellulose, Starch.
iii) Cuticles, Lenticles, Stomata, Hydathodes.
iv) Plastids, Mitochondria, Ribosome, Endoplasmic, Reticulum.

a) Given below is a diagrammatic representation of a certain part of the process of [ 4 mark]
circulation of blood in man. Study the same and then answer the question that follow: Refer Diagram -2.

c) Draw a labelled diagram of the cochlea of the ear. [3 Marks]

iii) Transpiration does not take place at night.
iv) A fresh water fish cannot survive in sea water.
v) Green leaves are thin and broad.

c) State the function of Seminiferous tubules and Epididymis.[3 Marks]

b) Mention the cause of the following hormonal disorder: [3 Marks]
i) Diabetes insipidus ii) Diabetes mellitus
iii) Hypothyroidism iv) Addison’s disease
v) Myxoedema

c) Give reasons for the following:[3 Marks]
i) A fresh water fish cannot survive in sea water.
ii) Green leaves are thin and broad.

b) i)On a certain species of animals, black fur(B) is dominant over brown fur(b). Predict a F1 genotype and phenotype of the offspring when both parents are having heterozygous black fur in the form of a punnet square.  [3 Marks]

c) Give the genotype and phenotype of the following cross: Tt X tt.  [3 Marks]

Question 7

a) i)Explain the term Plasmolysis. Give one application of this phenomenon in our daily lives.
ii) Mention three reasons for the increase in population in India.
iii) State any three functions of the World Health Organization.  [5 Marks]

b) i) Draw a neat labelled diagram of the membranous labyrinth found in the inner ear. Name the part of the structure that is responsible for static balance in human beings.
ii) Name the tube which connects the cavity of the middle ear with the throat.
iii) Name any two microbial diseases and the vaccines used as preventive measures for each.  [5 Marks]
