Maulana Azad Medical College is situated in the capital city of Delhi. It is situated in between of old Delhi and that of New Delhi on the other. The eminent campus includes the college and three of its major associated hospitals namely Lok Nayak Hospital and GB Pant Hospital and the Guru Nanak Eye Centre. The name of this institution wa given after the name of great patriot and educationist, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad since 1959- which shows its profound excellence and experience in the field.
The primary aim of this institution is to produce competent doctors with excellent knowledge and , specialist in the field, and super specialists who can save the life of the patient with serving to the mankind. It has excel to promote all facilities needed for learning and furtherance of knowledge by:
->Contribution towards national health care delivery system by providing efficient and expert medical services through the associated hospitals.
->Establishing routine and specialized laboratories of excellence and other investigative facilities.
->Pursuance of objectives of medical education by improving the course contents, continuing education and strengthening of research activities.
->Extending medical support to the local authorities for health care programmes.
->Extending health care facilities to rural population of Delhi which is summed up to 28,000 / year of footprints in MAMC through its organized centers in the community
Initially the college made its beginning in hospital block of Irwin (Lok Nayak) hospital 1958. The first stepping stone of main building of the college was laid on 24th October, 1959 by the then Home Minister of India, Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant. This building was inaugurated on 26th February, 1961 by the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru .
In 1964, Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital was added to the complex to provide training facilities and super-specialties. On 20th December, 1977 this college marked itself on history on the existence of Guru Nanak Eye Centre with the commissioning of a separate out patient department for ophthalmic diseases. Then in 1986 the indoor patient ward was added. There was a ed demand of the local residents of the nwtional capital to have a Dental wing which was met the existence of a wing which treated separately the patients having problem with their Tooths, this Dental Wing was established in the year of 1983. This dental wing turned itself to a Dental college with its excellent faculties and excellent labs in the year 2003.
The institution also offers courses in medical specialties at the Under Graduate and At the Post Graduate level And post doctoral level courses. All these courses are affiliated to the University of Delhi with the recognization of Medical Council of India .

The institution offers MBBS and BDS courses at the undergraduate level. It has a capacity of 200 numbers of seats in MBBS and with 40 numbers off seats being filled every year in BDS course annually.

POST GRADUATE courses provided by the college are:
A total number of enrollment of students in MD 67, and 25 number of setas for MS, with an excellent place of learning for post graduate diploma courses the total number of seats extend upto is 25 .
