Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) is one of the historical college of India. It could be traced to 1936, when the British government were ruling India. Very easily it can be said that the Indian medical service was maintained by the British government. A british national Col. Martin Melvil Curick Shank appointed to establish a medical college complex near Ramlila ground in the year 1940. But unfortunately the second war started in 1939 and as a result the plan has dropped. In the mean time british barracks constructed a well equipped medical center with x-ray machine, laboratory machines and various emergency procedures to fight with the American in this region. It was near Safdarjung’s tomb. The grave of the famous mughol poet era MOMIN placed at the parking place of the college. Inspite of many surveying this Maulana Azad Medical College remains into the top 5 colleges of india. Geographically it becomes more attractive because it is in the heart of the capital of India. And that’s why it is one of the most choicable college to the students of the northern india. In terms of admission test it is the second toughest college of india. It is just next to the All India Institute Of Medical Science. After getting independence this Irwin Hospital named Maulana Azad Medical College in the name of the freedom fighter Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. This college consists of 2400 beds and the work of further extension is going on. Now this Irwin block is known as Loknayak hospital. In 1964 for providing training facilities and practice Govind Ballabh Pant hospital was added to the complex. And finally after a long wait Dental wing has been fully established since 2003. Now MAMC is attached to four hospitals,

Not only this college is a tertiary care referral centre but also the teaching programme of graduation/ medical school, post graduation re sidency and fellowship is to be teach here. The admission in this college is highly competitive. Till 2012 University of Delhi conducted a pre-medical test named Delhi University Medical Entrance test, then it was affiliated to medical school. Now, NEET_UG conduct an examination for the admission and only 250 students can get admission. This medical school offers the degree MBBS. This medical school degree is equivalent to the MD in some countries. This medical college has one of the bestv faculties in country is an acknowledged fact. This is one of the important reason which makes this college (MAMC), one of the best college in india as well as in the world. A significant percentage of student from this college are working in abroad. In recent statistics more than 20% students are in united states of America and almost 20% students are in United kingdom. Not these only, almost in every country the students of Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) are placed. And contributes their best to the National Health Care.
