computer network question answers

Unit 1

Q1 a).Name the different layers of TCP/IP model.

Ans.It consists of 4 layers namely-Application layer,Transport Layer,Internet Layer,Network Interface.

b)What advantage does a circuit-switched network have over packet switched network? What are its disadvantages?

Ans.Circuit Switching Advantages-Higher bandwidth,No interference,Better Quality Of Service.

Disadvantages-Its inefficient, takes long time to setup, during crisis network maybe unavailable, developed mostly for voice traffic than data traffic.

Q.2 Name and explain the various methods used for detection of errors while transmitting the data.

Ans.The various methods are parity bits, checksum,CRC,Repetition Codes.

Unit-2

Q.3 Explain the concepts of Pure Aloha and Slotted Aloha alongwith specifying the differences among them.

Ans.Pure Aloha is continuos and doesn’t check the channel before transmission while slotted aloha being discrete is divided into timeslots.

Explain the following term: IEEE 802.11e.

Ans.It is an approved amendment to the same standard that defines a set of Quality Of Service enhancements for wireless LAN applications through modifications to the MAC layer.

Unit 3

Q.5 a)What is a router ?On which layer does it operate?

Ans.A router is a device for joining two networks and forwarding the data packets through a particular gateway. It operates on the Network Layer of the OSI Model.

b)What are the objectives of flow control and impact of congestion control?

Ans.Obectives of flow control-Maximize Network Throughput and reducing Network Delays

Impact of congestion control-1)Without Congestion d=d’ and congestion is inactive

2)With congestion d>d’ and congestion is active.

Q.6 What is the concept behind the ATM Networks?

Ans.It is a high speed networking standard to support both voice and data communications.

Unit 4

Q.7 Write short notes on Classless Interdomain Routing and Mobile IP.

Ans Classless Interdomain Routing-With the help of this method one can adress IP packets and route IP protocols.

Mobile IP-This protocol allows location independent routing of IP datagrams on the internet.

Q.8.What is ARP?Explain in detail.

Ans.It is Address Resolution Protocol and used in telecommunications in order to resolve the network layer addresses to link layer.
