After awarding the marks, here we are presenting before you, a brief introduction of each of the engineering colleges in Delhi ranked above.


Rank #1- Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi( IIT-D)

An Institute of National Importance, IIT Delhi is among one of the best engineering colleges in Delhi as well as India. The institute was founded in 1961. Numerous faculties and student from this institute have won awards of national and international fame. The elite faculties of this institute in 2012 bagged some of the prestigious awards like Iraj Zandi award, National Awards for Technology Innovation, Amar Dye-Chem Award, INAE Young Engineer Award etc. Students are no less too. Some of the awards bagged by students in 2013 are Honeywell Young Innovator award, Best oral award, etc. IIT-Delhi has a long trail of meritorious faculties and students. Spread over 330 acres of campus, the institute is many hostels, offices, employee residences, labs, roads, playgrounds,gyms etc with their supporting infrastructure. The institute gets funding of the order of Rs. 3.5 billion per annum. Being toppers in studies, the institute gives equal importance too. Admissions for B.Tech program is done through Joint Entrance Exam(JEE) and for M.Tech via GATE. M.Sc. admissions are based on JAM. With a total faculty strength of 408 teachers including professors, associate professors,assistant professors, visiting and emeritus faculty, IIT-D is a home to around 7000 students residing in 13 hostels. So the student to teacher ratio comes out to be around 17.2:1.Coming to extra-curricular activities too, the institute every year celebrates its 7 fests, namely Rendezvous, Tryst, Sportech, Spicmacay, I2Tech, Speranza and Literati.

According to various media resources IIT-Delhi selected 851 students in 2012 in total for various courses and 230 companies visited for the placements, minimum, average and maximum packages offered in India are 3, 5.2 and 22 lakhs respectively. For abroad, the figures are 30k, 35k and 100k USD respectively. 987 students participated in placements.

The institute offers B.tech courses in Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Industrial Production, Mechanical, Electrical, Textile, Engineering Physics and Electrical Power streams; M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering,Electrical Engineering,Textile Technology, Chemistry, Physics, Radio Frequency and Design and Atmospheric Oceanic Science and Technology. It offers M.Sc., Dual and Interdisciplinary courses in various streams too.

Landing at second place of our list of best engineering colleges in Delhi list we have UGC recognized Delhi Technological University offers B.E and B.Tech. programs for undergraduate courses and M.Tech. program for post-graduate courses. It was founded in 1940. Student Intake for B.Tech Course is 1546( in 2012), in which following streams are taught Biotechnology Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, ,Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mathematics and Computing, Polymer Science and Chemical Technology,Production and Industrial Engineering,  Software Engineering. Eligibility Criteria in B.Tech is , Min 60% marks in PCM aggregate, for admission 40% weightage is of class XII board marks and 60% of JEE mains. Faculty strength of the institute is 190 people.

The institute also offers a B.Tech. Evening course, for which student intake is 212 seats. Streams available in this course are Civil Engineering ,Mechanical Engineering,Electrical Engineering ,Electronics & Communication Engineering and Information Technology.

For post-graduate too, there are two courses, M.Tech(Full Time) with student intake of 429 students and M.Tech(Part Time) with student intake of 69 students. Subjects of study for both the post-graduate courses are Applied Chemistry, Applied Physics, Biotechnology Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, ,Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Information Technology Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Coming to placement records, few students of this university have bagged above 40 lakhs package, which is extremely good. There are many here who get more than one job offer.

AICTE approved, affiliated to DU, Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology( NSIT) ranks at three in all engineering colleges in Delhi. It was established in 1983 with the name of 1983. The institute got its present name in 1997. The institute boasts of a beautifully landscaped fully residential campus in sprawling 145 acres of land complete with all facilities including Faculty & Staff residences, Hostels, Cooperative mess, Sports Complex, Banks, Post Office, Kiosks and other amenities. Over 700 Research papers have been published by the institute in International Journals and several hundred presented in National/International Conferences by its Faculty members. Adding another jewel to the crown,  NSIT has established a ‘Science & Technology Park’  in the campus. Institute’s efforts have been recognized by ISTE in 2002 with Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan National Award to NSIT for being an Engineering College having best overall performance in the field of Technical Education in the Country. The institute was declared ‘Capital Pride’ by Govt. of NCT of Delhi. It has been recognized as a `QIP Center’ by AICTE in 2012-13, for admitting 10 faculty members from different Engineering Institutions across the country to Ph.D. degree programs in five disciplines at NSIT. Texas Instruments have recently set up a center of excellence here known as `TI Center for Embedded Product Design’ which is only one of its kind in the country.

The institute has a normal intake of 766 students excluding SC, ST, PH, DC and OBC. Supernumerary intake is 66 students.There are total 83 faculties teaching here for B.E. course, hence making the student to faculty ratio of  around 10:1. Eligibility Criteria in B.Tech is , Min 60% marks in PCM aggregate, for admission 40% weightage is of class XII board marks and 60% of JEE mains. Coming to placements, 81 companies visited the campus this year. Minimum and Maximum package of B.E. students were 3 and 16 lakhs respectively. For M.Tech. students, the numbers are 3 and 10 lakhs respectively.

At number four among all engineering colleges in Delhi, we have Faculty of Engineering & Technology – Jamia Millia Islamia. Established in 1985, Jamia Millia Islamia has civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and communication, and computer engineering, and applied sciences and humanities streams in its B.E. and B.Tech. M.Tech. course involves the study of  Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, Electrical Power Systems Management, Control and Instrumentation System, Mechanical Engineering – with specialization in Thermal Engineering, Production and Industrial Engineering, and Machine Design. All courses of the Faculty are duly approved by the All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE). There are 125 faculties and over 3000 students in the engineering courses making the student to faculty ratio of around 24:1. Total student intake in both B.Tech. and B.E. courses is 350 students.

Scoring fifth position in our list of best engineering colleges in Delhi, we have AICTE approved  Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) has been recently awarded with Fast Emerging Government College award. With a faculty of 31 people and having 545 students currently, the college ranks at number five in our rank list. The institute has been established in 2008 and teaches on two streams as of now- Computer Sciences and Electronics and Communication Engineering. Criteria for selection are  X and XII marks, JEE for B.Tech course and GATE for M.Tech. course. Almost all faculties here are Ph.D. According to institute, out of a batch of 56 students, 37 have been placed as of 21 March 2013.  Amazingly, in such a short span of time the institute has received high packages. Maximum packages in India and outside are 16 lacs and 28 lacs respectively. Average salary offered in India and outside are 8.4 lakhs and 10.1 lacs respectively. According to placement statistics if the institute, 24 companies have visited the campus this year. The institute has spread over a sprawling campus of 25 acres, and has all the facilities of hostels, gym, cafeteria, residence of faculties etc. Several students from the beginning of this college have been winning awards and fellowships from various institutes and organizations. Current intake of B.Tech. is 170 students(Computer Science only) and M.Tech. is 77 students.

At number six in our list of best engineering colleges in Delhi, we have formerly known as Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, this institute was established in 1998 by Directorate of Training and Technical Education, Govt of N.C.T of Delhi as the first engineering college for women. Selection in B.Tech is  done by through Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University(GGSIP); for M.Tech. selection parameters are scores in B.Tech., AMIE AMIETE and MCA.

Total faculties teach in the college are 48 and total student strength is 1200. Student intake for B.Tech. in every stream is 60 and for M.Tech. it is 30.The college celebrates following fests-Tremors, Cognition, Impulse, Xebec, Espectro.

Institute has all the facilities as expected from a good college-hostel, library, big classrooms, banks, internet services etc. Students of this college have bagged several prestigious awards like National Kalpana Chawla Award, University award for the Best Major Project etc. Students are also awarded scholarships like the GE Scholarship, Bharti Foundation Scholarship and DLF Raghvendra Scholarship each year. IGIT student has been awarded the TCS Best Student Award in 2013.

The institute provides Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Information Technology and Mechanical and Automation Engineering. Established in 1999 the institute now has total intake seats in engineering-900. There are 170 faculties in the institute with total student strength of around 2892 students. The college has an active IEEE, CSI and SAE student wings in the college along with the ‘Green Concept’, a green initiative by the students of the college. The college celebrates 4 fests throughout the year namely, Genesis, Sportz, Techsurge and Mridang.

Coming to placements, according to sources, average package is 3.20 lakhs and maximum package is 6 lakhs. Out of total, 242 students were placed.

GB Pant Government Engineering College is established in 2007 by the Department of Training and Technical Education (DTTE) of the Government of NCT of Delhi. It has received A grade by NAAC in 2007. The institute is AICTE approved. There are 4 streams namely Mechanical and Automation Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering with a total of 73 faculties. Each stream has strength of 120 students. So, total student strength is 480 students. Admission to the college is done through the centralized counseling conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha university, Delhi. Seats in GBPEC are allotted to the successful candidates of national level entrance exam C.E.T. (Common Entrance Test) according to their ranks during the centralized counseling session of the university. The college celebrates four fests every year- Anugooj, Resnovae, Ambrosia and Fortius. Average package of this year is 3.656 lakhs and Maximum package has reached to 5.82 lakhs.

Campus of Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology is spread over eight acres of land. It has established in year 1999.  Admission to the college is done through the centralized counseling conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi. Seats in Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology are allotted to the successful candidates of national level entrance exam C.E.T. (Common Entrance Test) according to their ranks during the centralized counseling session of the university. There are 4 streams namely Computer Science Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information technology and Applied Science with a total of 121 faculties. Total students in the college are around 1500 with a student intake of 360 students. The college organizes two fests namely Avensis and Genesis. Out of total, 249 students have been placed in this season.
According to sources, placement package varies between 2 lakhs to 3.5 lakhs per annum, average being 2.75 lakhs per annum.

An Institute of National Importance National Institute of Technology, Delhi has started in 2010. It has 3 streams currently. These are Computer Science Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering. Student Intake is 60 students in each for B.Tech. Selections are made through JEE score. This year the institute has started its M.Tech. course in Electronics and Communication Engineering with an intake of 15 students. Total students are 270 with 12 faculties in the institute. Student to faculty ratio is 22.5:1.
