The Union Public Service Commission will conduct the UPSC CSE Mains from August 21. The schedule was reconfirmed this week in national media. That leaves aspirants with roughly six and a half weeks. A total of 13,343 candidates have qualified the Prelims for about 933 vacancies. At this stage, content is mostly ready. Why Full Length Simulation Matters Now
Most aspirants write good answers in isolation. Few can write 20 quality answers in three hours, twice a day, for a week. That is the real test. Full length simulation trains three things. First, writing speed and hand endurance. Second, time allocation across 10 and 15 mark questions. Third, decision making when a question looks unfamiliar.

Write every mock in the actual exam time slots. Morning paper from 9 am to 12 noon. Afternoon paper from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Your body clock should peak in those windows by August.

Essay

General Studies
Target all 20 questions. An attempted average answer usually scores more than a skipped question. Keep introductions short. Use headings, flow charts and maps where natural. Close with a forward looking line.
Optional Papers
Optional marks decide ranks. Reproduce diagrams, thinkers and case studies from memory during mocks. Do not add new sources now.
Language Papers
Paper A and Paper B are qualifying. Give them one half day each. Practice precis, translation and grammar once a week.
How to Review a Mock Test
A test without review is wasted effort. Follow this loop after every mock. Read the model answers the same evening. Rewrite your two weakest answers the next morning. Exam Day Simulation Rules
Use only the black ball pen you will carry on exam day. Sit at a table without your phone. No water breaks beyond what a centre allows. Fill a mock attendance strip before starting. Simulate the afternoon fatigue by scheduling back to back papers at least twice before August. Recommended Practice Material
