The UPSC Civil Services Mains is set to begin on August 21, and the Commission has paired this cycle with its biggest process overhaul in years. More than 13,000 candidates who cleared Prelims will now write the written examination under a stricter verification regime. Face authentication at the venue, Aadhaar linked identity checks and a fully revamped online application system are the three changes every aspirant must understand before exam day.
What is new this year
The Commission has moved away from the legacy One Time Registration system to a new four part application portal with Aadhaar integration. Photographs, signatures and identity proofs uploaded during application are now matched at every later stage. According to the official communication available on the UPSC website, candidates will mandatorily undergo face authentication at the examination venue. The goal is simple. The person who applied must be the person who writes the paper.

New exam day checklist
Because verification is now biometric, reach your centre early. Carry the printed e-admit card, the original photo identity document quoted in your application and two passport size photographs. Any mismatch between your uploaded photograph and your present appearance can slow down your entry, so keep a copy of the same photograph you used in the application. Banned items remain unchanged. Seven weeks remain. Treat them as three blocks.
