The Union Public Service Commission of India conducts the civil services annually. It is a the toughest competitive exam employing candidates to various positions including the Indian  Administrative Services, the Indian Foreign Services and the Indian Police Service. The preparations for the civil service at the most requires a year or two.

Eligibility for UPSC

The exam is conducted in three stages and the eligibility is as follows. All Indian citizens within the age limit of 21- 32 (General category ) can appear for the exam and should be a graduate in any preferred subject. Indian citizens of the general category can attempt the exam 6 times and from Other Backward Class 9 times. For Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribe has the opportunity of unlimited attempts till the age of 37.

Process of UPSC

The exam as already stated as three stages. The prelims which has two objective papers, the mains which consists of subjective papers including your optional subjects and finally the personality test or commonly known as the interview, here they test one’s capability to carry out the duties of the desired position.

The Prelims consists of two papers which are objective. it qualifies you to appear for civil service examination. The Mains consists of 9 papers , all subjective. It begins with Paper A on any preferred Indian Language and Paper B on English (qualifying) The first paper is essay and 2,3,4, and 5 are on General studies and the last two papers on your optional subjects. Paper A and Paper B are of 300 marks each and the others on 250. The Interview is for 275. Therefore. the total is on 2025. 

There are almost 26 optional subjects. Ranging from Zoology to Literature and Electronics. Make sure you choose this paper wisely and according to your strengths.
