The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is an autonomous recruiting agency established to assess and select candidates for various public sector banks, excluding SBI and RBI. IBPS conducts exams for positions such as Probationary Officer (PO), Specialist Officer (SO), and Clerk. These exams are held annually between August and January and are conducted in three stages: Preliminary, Mains, and the final Interview.
English Language is a common section in both the Preliminary and Mains exams for all IBPS posts. It is a time-sensitive subject, as candidates have only one hour to attempt three sections—Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, and English—in the Prelims. English is considered a scoring section and includes topics such as Reading Comprehension, Fill in the Blanks, Para Jumbles, Sentence Correction, Idioms, and Phrases. Effective preparation involves developing a habit of reading English newspapers, books, and other materials regularly to enhance comprehension and vocabulary.
