From Struggles to Success: IAS Officer Kumar Anurag’s Inspiring Journey
Initial Hurdles and Failures
In India, if you cannot study, or if you do not like studying, most people believe you are weak. Society, including the parents, directly thinks that, “Oh, what can he study?” and therefore, resorts to non-academic careers. Also, it is believed that only academically bright students can clear the UPSC and become IAS officers. But Kumar Anurag has broken all these stereotypes and proved that with strong will and hard work, even a student could be molded for success.
A Never Ending Journey of Education
Kumar Anurag is originally from Katihar district in Bihar, but like many people, he started out very poorly in academic life. His schooling was done in Hindi syllabus up to Class VIII, and later he shifted to an English school. He had to face many hurdles. Anurag says he is an average student, but one who would never give up once he set his mind on something. During his 10th standard, Anurag put in consistent hard work, which finally paid off with a mark of 90%. But it wasn’t without its hiccups, though.
Overcoming failure and regaining focus
Anurag failed in his mathematics subject during the pre-board exams conducted in 12th grade. Instead of whining over the failure, he worked harder and went on to score more than 90 in his final exams. The academic performance earned him admission into the revered Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi.
Once in Delhi, Anurag slackened his focus on studies and indulged in a carefree life. It resulted in his failing several subjects in his graduation. Criticism from the family made him realize his errors and decide to change his way. He graduated and moved ahead to pursue a post-graduation degree.
Turning Point: The Decision to Prepare for the UPSC
Anurag’s failures acted as a trigger for his transformation into the individual he is now. During his post-graduation, he opted to prepare for the UPSC exams instead. “I recognized the failure to rise above myself. I’ve taken my share of blame in accepting so I can take next steps in reviewing it,” said Anurag. He simply dedicated himself to studies, sketched out notes and gave mock tests to understand how the examination functions.
First Achievement: Clearing UPSC at 677 Rank
It was Anurag’s figure for each of the 2017 exams that he attended his UPSC examination. The results came in the form of an All India Rank of 677 in the exam conducted for the purposes of selecting aspiring IAS officers. Not being satisfied with the result, redoubled efforts at improving performance continued with a reappearance before the UPSC Civil Services Exam in 2018.
Ultimate Achievement: IAS with 48th Rank
The 48th rank achieved in the 2018 UPSC exam was Anurag’s finally rewarded effort to achieve the life dream of becoming an IAS officer. He is now serving as Assistant District Magistrate in Betia of the Bihar cadre.
Messsage to the Aspirants: New Beginnings with Strategic Plans
Start Over for Kumar Anurag: For any aspirant preparing for UPSC, it’s time to start from the beginning-they have to forget all their past academic failures. It is the kind of exam with which, even from nothing, a man can soar high through hard labor. As advised by Anurag, there should be no haste in understanding each and every topic. According to him, it is hard work and well-laid strategy which have all success ingredients in this examination.
Conclusion
Anurag’s travel experience is the strongest argument that life demands perseverance, self-belief, and hard work. According to him, success and achievement take just one determination to improve and work hard towards one’s goal. His story is an inspiration for innumerable students who might feel lost or devoid of hope with the idea that determination might one day allow them to achieve their dreams.
