Strategy to crack Civil Engineering in GATE-2017

Syllabus analysis is very important for any competitive exam and same with the GATE exam. One should have an idea of which topics to Grab and make them strong point and which topics to skip. No doubt preparations and knowledge are two different things. You need to analyze what exam wants from you rather what you know about civil engineering. The exam wants prepared student instead of knowledgeable student. This helps in selective study to prepare of exam in a leisurely manner. Here are some strategies to have a crux on preparation and How to Prepare Civil Engineering for GATE-2017 examination. Therefore, amalgamating these strategies will make preparation smooth and mellifluous.

1) First of all go through the detailed syllabus of Civil Engineering and mark the subjects with more weightage based on previous years analysis. Select the subjects to prepare accordingly and make an analysis of priority of subjects

2) Most Noteworthy is that the focus should be more on core subjects. For Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geo technical Engineering, Construction Engineering &Management are must for any Civil engineering aspirant. These subjects carry more than 50% of Weight age of  Technical Subjects of Civil Engineering.

Based on analysis the Priority of Subjects should be –

Civil Engineering

  • Structural Engineering
  • Geo technical Engineering
  • Construction Engineering &Management
  • Transportation Engineering

3) If you are preparing in self study mode then First of all Prepare good notes by using Standard textbooks like or get enrolled in good coaching if self study is not possible at this moment.

4) Remember the most important part of preparation is “Previous Years Questions”  . It is mandatory to Practice the previous year questions even though the concepts are clear. The frequency should increase with upcoming of exam and practice as much as possible. This will nourish your preparation and will help you get an Idea of level of Questions asked in the exam .

5) Simultaneously make a short list for Various Formulae which are frequently asked in the technical section.

6) Also practising Mock Tests periodically  is another important pillar of preparation. Do stick to a good test series. This garnishes our preparation and helps to experience Real time exam mode.

7) Consistent and regular revision of technical subjects help in comprehending the subjects quickly.

Best of Luck of Exams!!

Here is a 4 Step Plan to prepare for GATE 2017 :
    1. First study basic definitions, formulas, units and dimension. This will be helpful while doing extensive preparation of that particular subject
    2. Next study the theoretical concepts. Make simple notes for future reference and revision.
    3. Then study the numerical portion by solving problems contained in that particular subject.
