INSTRUMENTATION AND APPLICATION OF NMR SPECTROSCOPY  :

NMR Spectroscopy stands for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy . NMR is based on analytical technology and  is used in various fields like scientific research , various industries , medical fields   etc. NMR is now the most versatile spectroscopic  technique that is used in regular analysis of biomacromolecules . NMR spectroscopy instruments  is of two types :

1> Fourier Transform NMR Instrument and                                                                                  2> Continuous Wave NMR Instrument

1>Fourier Transform NMR Instrument : In Fourier Transform NMR Instrument  small energy change takes place in the magnitude , present in NMR  and hence the sensitivity of this instrument   is very less. The sensitivity in Fourier Transform NMR is increased by adding the square root of  recorded spectra’s together .This process takes place by a continuous wave instrument . Simultaneous irradiation of frequency occurs in a spectrum having a radio frequency pulse and then the nuclei  returns back to thermal equilibrium or its normal state .

2>Continuous Wave NMR Instrument : The Continuous Wave NMR follows the principle of optical spectrometers .The frequency of the given source of products is scanned by placing  it in a magnetic field .Sometimes in some products the source is kept constant and the magnetic field is scanned and changed .Previously experiments were done using Continuous Wave NMR but now Fourier transform NMR is high prefered .

Some Applications of NMR Technology are :

1> It helps to determine the chemical properties of functional groups in biomacromolecules .

2> It directly detects the hydrogen bonding interactions of chemical products .

3> It is used for research purposes in subjects like  physics and chemistry .

4> It defines the atomic resolution structure in biomacromolecules.

NMR is also used in developement of medicines , gathering of information that are dynamic in nature , in testing of RNA and DNA and variety of protiens , computation of quantums and research in chemistry .

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS :

QUE> What are the applications of NMR ?

ANS>   The main applications of NMR is that NMR  helps in determining the chemical properties of functional groups in biomacromolecules . It detects the hydrogen bonding interactions of chemical products  . NMR  is used for research in physics and chemistry  papers and It also defines the atomic resolution structure in biomacromolecules.

QUE> Name the two types of NMR Instruments ?

ANS>  NMR instruments  is of two types : 1> Fourier Transform NMR Instrument and                                                                                          2> Continuous Wave NMR Instrument.

QUE > Write  short note on Fourier Transform NMR Instrument ?

ANS>  In Fourier Transform NMR Instrument a very small energy change takes place in the magnitude , involved in NMR  and hence the sensitivity in this is very less. The sensitivity in Fourier Transform NMR can be increased by adding the square root of  recorded spectra’s together .This process takes place by a continuous wave instrument . Simultaneous irradiation of all frequency in a spectrum occurs with a radio frequency pulse and then the nuclei  returns to thermal equilibrium .

QUE> How is  Continuous Wave NMR Instrument related to optical spectrometers ?

ANS> The Continuous Wave NMR follows the principle of optical spectrometers .The frequency of the given samples source is scanned by placing  it in a magnetic field .Sometimes in some samples the source is kept constant and the magnetic field is scanned .Previously experiments were done using Continuous Wave NMR but now Fourier transform NMR is prefered .

QUE> Name some fields where NMR technology is used ?

ANS > NMR stands for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy . NMR is based on analytical technology and  is used in various fields like scientific research , various industries , medical fields   etc. NMR is now the most versatile spectroscopic  technique that is used in regular analysis of biomacromolecules .
