The Kerala Administrative Service has quickly become the most sought after state civil service exam in Kerala. Conducted by the Kerala Public Service Commission, KAS offers a fast track into the state secretariat and senior administrative roles. What Makes KAS Different

KAS Exam Pattern
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination
Two objective papers of 100 marks each. Paper 1 covers General Studies, including History, Polity, Geography, Economy, and Science. Paper 2 focuses on General English, Malayalam or other regional language comprehension, quantitative aptitude, and reasoning. Kerala specific topics, from the renaissance movement to state schemes, carry heavy weight in both papers.
Stage 2: Main Examination
Three descriptive papers of 100 marks each, testing essay writing, analytical ability, constitutional understanding, and knowledge of Kerala’s economy, society, and administration. Answer writing practice is therefore non negotiable.
Stage 3: Interview
A personality test that evaluates administrative aptitude, communication, and integrity, after which the final ranked list is published.
How the Last Cycle Unfolded
In the most recent recruitment, the notification was released in March, Prelims followed in June, Mains was held in October, and interviews concluded in the following January and February. Vacancies were limited to around 31 posts, which pushed cut offs high. The lesson for the next cycle is simple. Small vacancy counts reward early, thorough preparation, not last minute sprints.

- Practice bilingual writing. Write one answer in English and one in Malayalam every day during the Mains phase.
