The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the written examination of Combined Defence Service twice a year. The Exam is conducted for Recruitment of various Post of Defence Sector. These Posts are as follows-
a) Indian Military Academy (IMA)
b) Officers Training Academy (OTA)
c) Naval Academy ( NA)
d) Air Force Academy (AFA)

Exam Pattern of UPSC CDS Exam-
The written examination is conducted twice a year by UPSC in various shifts. The written exam consists of three sections followed by the Personality Test and Medical Test. The three sections are as follows-
Given below is the exam pattern in tabular form-
Exam Pattern for Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, Indian Military Academy-
There will be three Subjects English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics. The Each section will carry 100 marks and the time allotted for each section will be 2 hours. There will be provision of negative marking as well. About 1/3rd of marks will be deducted for each wrong answer. The nature of exam will be objective.

Exam pattern for OTA ( Officers Training Academy) –
For OTA only two sections will be there i.e English Language and General Knowledge. Candidates will not appear in Elementary Mathematics Examination.

Let us now go through the preparation Strategies of Various Subjects-
Here are some Important strategies of English-
a) English is a complicated subject to deal when it comes for Competitive Exams.
b) There are three pillars for English – Comprehension, Grammar and Vocabulary.
c) For Comprehension- One should prefer Newspaper Reading.
d) For Vocabulary improvement one should pick important words from Newspaper. Vocabulary comes with Revision. So I suggest consistent revision of words.
Important Strategies for General Knowledge-
a) Current Affairs is indispensable to master this section of General Knowledge.
b) Important Topics like Union Budget, Economic Survey Of India, Important capitals, currencies, countries, Important personalities, Wildlife Sanctuaries and National parks etc
c) One should keep an eye on Static GK as well.
Important Strategies for Elementary Mathematics-
a) Maths require consistent practice.
b) Go Through the important formulas and derivations.
c) Continuous practice of objective questions will help students to get an edge over other candidates.
