- Click on the e-Admit Card link for Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2026
- Log in using your Registration ID or Roll Number along with Date of Birth
- Download the admit card and take a clear colour printout on A4 size paper
- Carefully verify all details: name, father’s name, exam centre address, date, roll number, photograph, and signature
If any detail on the admit card appears incorrect, contact UPSC at their facility centre immediately before May 24. Carry at least two printed copies of the admit card to the exam.
Documents Required on UPSC Prelims 2026 Exam Day
Every candidate must carry the following two documents without exception:
- Printed e-Admit Card: Downloaded from the official UPSC website. A photocopy is not acceptable.
- Original Photo ID Proof: The same ID mentioned in your UPSC application form. Acceptable IDs include Aadhaar Card, Voter ID Card, PAN Card, Passport, or Driving Licence.
A photocopy of the ID proof is not acceptable. The original document is mandatory. Candidates who fail to carry either of these two documents may be denied entry to the examination hall.
Reporting Time and Entry Rules at UPSC Exam Centre
Timings at UPSC exam centres are strictly enforced. Late entry is not permitted under any circumstances:
- For Paper I (GS): Gates close at 9:00 AM. Reach the centre by 8:30 AM or earlier.
- For Paper II (CSAT): Gates close at 2:00 PM. Return to the centre by 1:30 PM after your lunch break.
- Entry is refused to any candidate arriving after gate closure time.
- It is strongly recommended to visit the exam centre location one day in advance to avoid any last-minute confusion.
Prohibited Items at UPSC Prelims 2026 Exam Hall
The following items are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall. Possession of any of these items may lead to disqualification:
- Mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, earphones, or any electronic gadget
- Wallets, bags, handbags, or pouches
- Books, notebooks, handwritten notes, or printed study material
- Calculators or any digital device
- Pencil pouches, geometry boxes, or correction fluid
- Any unauthorised communication device
- Metallic ornaments or accessories that may trigger security checks
Candidates may leave prohibited items in their personal vehicles or at designated storage areas if provided by the centre administration. Do not carry valuables to the exam centre.
Writing Instrument for UPSC Prelims 2026 OMR Sheet
Only a black ballpoint pen is permitted for marking the OMR answer sheet. Do not use pencils, gel pens, or ink pens. Fill the circles completely and avoid overwriting. Rough work may only be done in the space designated for it on the answer sheet.

There is no official UPSC dress code, but practical guidelines for exam day are:
- Wear comfortable, light clothing suitable for a long day (approximately 6 to 7 hours at the centre)

Negative Marking and Attempt Strategy for UPSC Prelims 2026
UPSC Prelims follows a negative marking scheme. Understanding this is critical before you sit in the exam hall:
- Correct answer: +2 marks (for GS Paper I with 100 questions totalling 200 marks)
- Wrong answer: Minus one-third of the marks assigned to that question
- Unattempted question: 0 marks
