What are the salaries of IAS, IPS and IFS officers?

IAS

The IAS officers have different salaries according to their field experience.

Junior or Lower Time Scale

  • Range: Rs 15,600 – 39,100
  • Allowance: Rs 5,400 (compensates for training and learning)
  • Position: Sub-Divisional Magistrate or Sub-Collector (SDM or SDO) in a subdivision of a district

Senior Time Scale

  • Years of Experience Required: 5
  • Range: Rs 15,600 – 39,100
  • Allowance: Rs 6,600
  • Position: District Magistrate (DM) or Collector or a Joint Secretary of a Government Ministry

Junior Administrative Grade

  • Years of Experience Required: 9
  • Range: Rs 15,600 – 39,100
  • Allowance: Rs 7,600
  • Position: Special secretary or head of various government departments

Selection Grade

  • Years of Experience Required: 12-15
  • Range: Rs 37,400 – 67,000
  • Allowance: Rs 8,700
  • Position: Secretary of a ministry

Super Time Scale

  • Years of Experience Required: 17 – 20
  • Range: Rs 37,400 – 67,000
  • Allowance: Rs 8,700
  • Position: Principal secretary of an important department of the government

Above Super Timescale

  • Years of Experience Required: (variable)
  • Range: Rs 37,400 – 67,000
  • Allowance: Rs 12,000
  • Position: (variable)

Apex Scale

  • Years of Experience Required: (variable)
  • Pay: Rs 80,000 (fixed)
  • Position: Chief Secretary of States, Union Secretaries in charge of various ministries of Government of India

Cabinet Secretary Grade

  • Years of Experience Required: (variable)
  • Pay : Rs 90,000 (fixed)
  • Post: Cabinet Secretary of India

IPS

The salary of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer is based on the position which they hold.

1. The DGP or Commissioner of Police gets a fixed salary of 80,000 INR.

2. 37,400-67,000 INR and grade pay of 12,000 INR is given to the Additional DGP or Special Commissioner of Police.

3.  A salary of 37,400-67,000 INR as well as a  grade pay of 10,000 INR can be expected by the Inspector General of Police/Joint Commissioner of Police.

4. The remuneration of DIG of Police or Additional Commissioner of Police is of 37,400-67,000 INR. The grade pay is 8,900 INR.

5. 15,600-39,100 INR and the grade pay of 8,700 INR is awarded to the Senior Superintendent of Police or DCP.

6.  15,600-39,000 INR along with grade pay of 6,600 INR is meant for Additional Superintendent of Police under the state government.

7. DSP can expect anywhere from 15,600-39,100 INR along with grade pay of 5,400 INR.

IFS

Salary Structure of IFS as per their Grade:

1. Junior Time Scale 

Position: Under Secretary

Pay Range: Rs. 8000  – 13, 500

2. Senior Time Scale

Position: Under Secretary

Pay Range: Rs. 10, 650 – 15, 850

3. Junior Administrative Scale

Position: Deputy Secretary

Pay Range: Rs. 12, 750  – 16, 500

4. Selection Grade – IV

Position: Counselor Director

Pay Range: Rs. 15, 100– 18, 300

5. Senior Administrative Scale

Position: Joint Secretary

Pay Range: Rs. 18, 400  – 22, 400

6. High Commissioner / Ambassador

Fixed pay: Rs. 26, 000
