WIRELESS NETWORK OPERATION:

There are two technologies used for wireless network operation

  1. Mobility Management
  2. Radio Resources and power Management

MOBILITY MANAGEMENT

WIRELESS NETWORK OPERATION notes

Mobility management allows the mobile phones to work and it is the major function of the GSM or a UMTS network. The main objective of the mobility management is to track the subscribers and management mobile phone services like allowing calls, SMS and many other services.

Mobility Management commonly referred to as a combination of location and handoff management.

LOCATION MANAGEMENT

For delivery of the voice and data communication location management involves in tracking the location of MS as it moves. Determining the location of MS is another main function of Location Management.

Location Management is divided into three parts and these are:

  • Location Updates
  • Paging
  • Location Information Dissemination

LOCATION UPDATES

This updates are the message sent by the MS regarding its changing point of access to the fixed network. These may have varying granularity and frequency.

PAGING

The network will have to page the MS in such a group of cells in order to deliver an incoming message to the MS. The paged terminal will respond through the point of access that is providing coverage in its cell.

LOCATION INFORMATION DISSEMINATION

It is a procedure required to store and distribute the location information related to the MSs service by the network.

HANDOFF MANAGEMENT:

It is a process of transferring an ongoing call or data from one channel in a network to another. And it is also a process of satellite control responsibility from one earth station to another without interruption or loss of service.

RADIO RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

In wireless system communication RRM is the system level control of co-channel interference and other radio transmission characteristics. RRM does not concerns the point-to-point channel capacity but it concerns multi-user and multi-cell network capacity. RRM also includes the strategies and algorithms for controlling the parameters such as data rates, handoff, modulation scheme, transmit power etc.

The main objective of RRM is to maximize the system spectral efficiency. And efficient dynamic RRM may increase the system capacity in an order of magnitude.

STATIC RADIO RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Static RRM schemes are used in 1G and 2G cellular system and it uses in many wireless system.

Examples:

  • Fixed channel allocation
  • Static handoff criteria
  • Circuit mode communication using TDMA and FDMA

DYNAMIC RADIO RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

Dynamic RRM is use to design of wireless system to minimize expensive manual cell planning and achieve tighter frequency reuse pattern.

Examples:

  • Link adaptation algorithm
  • Power control algorithm
  • Mobile Ad hoc network using multipath communication

QUESTION & ANSWER

  1. What are the parts of location management??

ANSWER

There are three parts of location management

  1. Location update
  2. Paging
  3. Location information dissemination

2. What is the main objective of mobility management??

ANSWER

The main objective of mobility management is to track the subscriber as it moves and manage the mobile services like allowing calls, SMS and many other services.

3. What do you mean by HANDOFF management??

Handoff is the mechanism by which an ongoing connection between a MS and a correspondent terminal is transferred from one point of access to the fixed network to another.

4. What are the example of Static and Dynamic Radio Resources management??

ANSWER

Example of static RRM are

  • Static handoff criteria
  • Fixed channel allocation
  • Circuit mode communicating using FDMA and TDMA

Example of Dynamic RRM are

  • Adaptive filtering
  • Dynamic diversity scheme
  • Admission control etc.

Wireless has brought about a revolution in the field of communication. The places through which wire cannot be reach from there wireless can be reached.

  2. Rachita Mishra says:

Wireless network refers to any type of computer network that uses wireless (usually, but not always radio waves) for network connections. It is a method by which homes, telecommunications networks and enterprise (business) installations avoid the costly process of introducing cables into a building, or as a connection between various equipment locations.About this is given in this article.
