Pollution Control: A Costly Affair for India
Pollution in India is on the rise, confirms a national summary report on air quality monitoring and emission for six cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, and Kanpur. The report should be a wake-up alarm for the nation and concerned authorities as the high level of Particulate Matter (PM) and Nitrogen Dioxide in the air needs immediate action before the situation aggravates.
-The environment ministry-constituted committee prepares the report.
The National Green Tribunal constituted an expert body on Tuesday to determine the ’causes’ and ‘extent’ of environmental pollution in Noida, which ‘is certainly affecting the life of residents’. The tribunal passed the order on a petition filed by a Noida resident alleging high levels of environmental pollution in the Report Times of India.
The Golden Flight Path
We must take these measures into consideration to propel India’s full-fledged comeback as the “Golden Bird”.
1. Petroleum companies must immediately stop adding lead to gasoline. We must prohibit the use of other carcinogenic chemicals that enhance fuel power and consider such actions offenses punishable by law.
2. There should be uniform fuel quality and emission standards across India. We must accelerate and tighten the Auto Fuel Policy to cover all cities and implement Euro IV standards.
standards.
3. We must impose a total ban on private vehicles using diesel as fuel and prohibit the manufacturing of diesel-powered cars.
4. The government may encourage the use of clean fuels like CNG, LPG, and Hydrogen in automobiles. In particular, all buses and trucks in cities should be run on CNG.
5. A National task force should be established to develop the use of hydrogen gas as an alternative fuel for cars. The task force may suggest alternative methods.
Both society and government need to take steps to control pollution which in turn will lead to a better future, a safe future, and a good habitat as always earth remains for us.
Can India Afford Pollution Control
While controlling pollution might appear to be a luxury, it is, in fact, an inevitable necessity. Pollution’s long-term economic and health costs far outweigh the short-term benefits of unchecked urbanization and industrialization. Rising healthcare expenses due to pollution-related health issues, reduced agricultural output, and declining tourism all take a toll on the national economy.
We must promote awareness about pollution’s drawbacks in rural areas, which need education despite being less polluted than urban areas. By doing so, we can highlight the hazards and see positive changes.
