The Kyoto University is a national university which is located at the place named Kyoto in Japan. It is the second oldest University of Japan. It is one in the list of Japan’s seven top universities and is also Asia’s high ranked universities. Since 2008 this university is consistently ranked as the second best institute in Japan. It is also considered as one of the top among the 180 national and public universities. Seeing its status one can easily imagine about the craze of the students in being a part of this institute. The students from all over the world apply in this university to pursue their education, especially for their Masters.

But many of the students from different countries like say India, are unable to afford their education in the universities like this. So the university had started offering for these students some international scholarship for Indians especially. The scholarship are mainly aimed at those who are brilliant students as well as talented but can’t afford to brighten their future. The International Scholarship for Indians (especially)

1.     Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship

School Fees: The examination, admission and tuition fees are exempted
Travelling Costs: One round – trip ticket is provided
Eligible Students: Any international students
Scholarship: For the Masters’ students the amount of the monthly stipend is ¥ 144,000, though the amount is subject to change in accordance with the monthly budget. The students who study in certain designated areas would be receiving an additional monthly stipend of ¥ 2,000 or ¥ 3,000
Application Process: There are generally 3 ways:

a.     Embassy Recommendations: Pre – arrival applications are generally made through the embassy recommendations. Most of the students at the university avail this scholarship
b.     University Recommendations: This University selects the research – students whose institute has the students exchange agreement with this university. The university then selects the candidates for this recommendation
c.     Domestic Selection: Available for only privately financed students who are already enrolled in the Japanese University. These applications are accepted after entering the university

2.       Honors Scholarship

Eligible Students: The privately financed international students studying at a University in Japan are eligible
Scholarship: The graduate student awardees receive ¥ 65,000 per month. This scholarship is awarded by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)
Application Process: Generally the applications are accepted following the admission to the university

3.       Scholarships from Private Foundations

Eligible Students: Any of the international students
Scholarship: Generally in this scholarship program the university recommends the candidates to approximately 50 private foundations. This is based on the intra – university selection process. Each of the organization offers about ¥ 33,000 to ¥ 180,000 to one or two students only
Application Process: Either the individual students can directly apply or the application is done through the applicant’s university
