It is culturally rich and has artistic and cultural traditions which reflect the ancient Indian way of life. Not long ago the condition of medical education in this state was poor. During a short span of time, the state has accommodated many medical colleges offering numerous medical courses. Some of these colleges take admission through a national or state-level entrance exams while rest affiliated to some private universities conduct the exam of their own. Sawai Man Singh Medical college is the best among all medical colleges in Rajasthan. This government college was established in year 1947 and is affiliated to Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Jaipur and too it is affiliated to MCI. It was the 15th centre for medical education in India.  The college intakes 150 students to its MBBS course every year. The admissions are done on the basis of merit in the AIPMT exam, with constitutional reservations, done by the centralized process by Govt. of Rajasthan. Above MBBS, the college also offers MS and MD post-graduation courses along with Diploma, M.Ch. D.M, M.Sc. (Med), PhD, and Nursing courses. There are 32 departments and six hospitals attached to this medical college.

Rabindranath Tagore Medical College was founded in year 1961 and is affiliated to Medical Council of India. The admission to the M.B.B.S. course of this college is highly competitive. Eligibility criteria for under-graduate courses, includes graduation from high school with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as core subjects. The medical college offers 100 seats in M.B.B.S. course, 92 in post graduate degree courses, 12 in post graduate diploma courses and two seats in DM Cardiology course. 15% of total M.B.B.S. seats are filled through the All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Test or NEET-UG (from 2013) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, 4% seats are reserved for the Government of India nominees from the North-Eastern states. Remaining seats are filled through the Rajasthan Pre-Medical Test conducted by the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Jaipur. From 2013 onward,undergraduate admissions will be through NEET-UG. Half of the seats in every post-graduate specialty are filled on the basis of All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination and rest through Rajasthan Pre-PG Examination. The college offers Post Graduate degree courses in Preventive and Social Medicine, Pathology, Ophthalmology, ENT, General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Anesthesiology,Orthopedics, Radiodiagnosis/Radiology, Radiotherapy, Psychiatry, Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, and Dermatology. Post graduate diploma courses are offered in Anesthesiology, Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Sarder Patel Medical College is a government college and was established in year 1959. It is Rajasthan’s second oldest college. The college has 150 seats for MBBS and 63 for the post grad students and 18 in diploma one seat in DM cardiology. There are separate hostels for students, four for undergraduate boys, and one for girls, one for interns and two for postgraduate students.

Dr. Sampurnanand Medical College is a  government college and was established in year 1965. Each year about 100-120 students take admission in its MBBS course via CBSE and RPMT and 250 in total of all courses.  Presently post-graduation degree is available in 19 different fields.  Admissions to post graduate courses are done through Rajasthan Premedical Post Graduation Exam and All India Pre PG Exam. Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College is a government college and was established in year 1965. Attached to the college is The Victoria Hospital. The college offers MBBS, MS, MD degree courses along with few other diploma courses. It is affiliated with Rajasthan University of Health Sciences and Medical Council of India. . Admissions are based upon a competitive premedical entrance examination which is NEET-UG for admission to MBBS and NEET-PG for admissions to postgraduate courses.These entrance exams are conducted by the Medical Council of India. A 15% of seats are reserved for candidates, selected through national quota and a few seats reserved for the students coming from underprivileged communities and defense personnel, rest of the seats are filled by state quota. There are 100 seats approved for MBBS and 74 seats for postgraduate course.
