About BHU (Banaras Hindu University)
Established in the year 1916 by Madan Mohan Malaviya, in co-ordination with Annie Besant, BHU is the largest residential university in Asia as around 30,000 students reside in its campus. It was formerly known by the name Central Hindu College. Its motto is “Knowledge imparts Immortality”.
BHU is organised into 6 institutions and 14 faculties and about 140 departments. It has over 75 hostels for resident students. A few of its faculties include Arts (FA-BHU), Commerce (FC-BHU), Management (Institute of Management Studies-BHU), Science (I.Sc.-BHU), Performing Arts (FPA-BHU), Law (FL-BHU), Agricultural Science (I.A.S-BHU), etc. The institutes are administratively autonomous, with their own budget, management and academic bodies.
Salient Features of BHU
• The University offers almost all possible undergraduate and higher degree courses, which act as complimentary courses for students willing to prepare for the IAS Civil Services Exam.
• It consists majorly of 14 faculty streams among which a few to be named are Science, Arts, Commerce, Law, Management, etc
• There is freedom to define and design the course content or start new courses.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) & Its IAS Connection
For preparation of UPSC CSE Exam, one needs to take an admission in Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences. There are a few issues with the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences in Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The syllabus they teach is not up to date. It is actually very lengthy and is not revised regularly as it is being used by the university over a period of many years. The subject combinations offered by FA-BHU & FSS-BHU are not exactly the same subjects needed for preparation of UPSC CSE and have some other unnecessary subjects included too.
About University of Allahabad

• The two states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar had produced the most number of IAS officers in the country and all thanks to Allahabad University.
• The University offers almost all possible undergraduate and higher degree courses (hence called as, “ The Oxford of the east”), which act as complimentary courses for students willing to prepare for the IAS Civil Services Exam.
• It consists majorly of 5 faculty streams namely Science, Arts, Commerce, Law, Management faculties with Arts faculty housing the administrative block.

Allahabad University & Its IAS Connection
Various hostels in the University which include A. N. Jha Hostel, Pant Hostel, G. N. Jha Hostel have best environment for Civil Services Exams preparation and are rightly called ‘the Factory of IAS’. The University is the Hindi Language oriented University and provides a perfect environment for IAS Aspirants willing to study Civil Services, specifically for the students with a Hindi Medium background.
The Arts Faculty syllabus of the Allahabad University stays almost in-line with the syllabus of UPSC CSE. The University Library provides the students with thousands of best books for IAS preparation. Given the perfect atmosphere and facilities provided by the university, it has turned into a hub of IAS Exam Students.
The faculty support is excellent for the Departments of Psychology, Economics, History, Geography, English, Hindi, Urdu, Philosophy, Political Science, Anthropology, Education, and Management. Being Hindi medium oriented, the University is not advisable for higher education in degree courses because most of the Educational Institutions in the country have developed the English Language-based Education culture.

In the previous year, the University has produced a whopping 17 IAS Officers. The results of the University have been great in State PSC exams and other exams like UP SI, UP SSC, VDO, etc.
Comparision- BHU v/s Allahabad University
In the previous year, there is no instance of any placement of a graduate passed from BHU and clearing UPSC CSE. In comparison, the Allahabad University has produced a whopping 17 IAS Officers. The results of the Allahabad University have been great in State PSC exams and other exams like UP SI, UP SSC, VDO, etc too.
The faculty support at Allahabad University is excellent for the Departments of Psychology, Economics, History, Geography, English, Hindi, Urdu, Philosophy, Political Science, Anthropology, Education and Management. Being Hindi medium oriented, the University is not advisable for higher education in degree courses because most of the Educational Institutions in the country have developed the English Language-based Education culture. Hence, it can be concluded that Allahabad University is the hub of IAS Exam preparation is the primary choice and one can take admission here without any concern. Avoid BHU for UPSC-CSE preparation.
