Anthropology is the study of humanity. It deals with everything that is a part of human experience, from evolutionary origin to social and cultural setups. The term has come from a Greek word “anthropos” meaning “man” and “logia” meaning “study”.It is also concerned with how social relations among humans are organized, who were the ancestors of modern Homo Sapiens, what are the characteristics of human traits, how humans behave, why are there differences among different groups of humans, how has the evolutionary past of human beings influenced the social and cultural organizations and so on.
Anthropology originated in the colonial encounter between Western people and colonized Non-Western people, as Europeans tried to understand the origin of cultural diversity. Today it is a global discipline which studies the past and present of mankind.
