IELTS TEST FORMAT

For preparing IELTS examination it is advisable to always have a proper look at the islets test format. When you know what are the focusing areas of the examination on which the examination test series till you are able to work on those areas more efficiently.

Basically, there are two variants of IELTS exam.

  1. IELTS academic.
  2. IELTS General.

IELTS will evaluate you on listening, reading, writing and speaking

The time duration for the exam of IELTS is even less than 3 hours.

You do not get any break between the first three test that is listening, reading, writing

You can take the speaking test either on the same to you can take the test 7 days before the examination or even after that.

We will be discussing each section that is listening, reading, writing and speaking one by one.

LISTENING

Paper format of IELTS LISTENING

They are overall 4 section with 10 questions each. The questions have been designed in a manner that they appear in an order in which they are heard in the audio.

You can only hear the recording only for one time. The audio will have the accent including Australian, American, Canadian, British, New Zealand.

Timing:-

Approximately you will get 30 minutes. In addition to this, you will get 10 minutes as a transfer time.

Total number of questions:-

The total number of questions which appear in the IELTS exam is 40 in number.

Marks:

Each question will be of 1 mark.

Answering procedure:-

Test takers need to write the answer on the question paper in the order of listening. At the end of the test, students are given 10 minutes to copy their answers to the given answer sheet. A student should take care for writing answers on the answer sheet because any mistake in the spelling and grammar will be penalized.

READING

Paper format of IELTS Reading

You will get free reading Passages that will have the variety of questions with the number of task types.

TIMING:-

The overall timing of this section is 60 minutes.

No of questions in the reading section

You will get 40 questions in total.

Type of tasks

Get the variety of questions that have been chosen from the multiple sources. Types maybe finding information, the views of the writer, marching the information, matching the headings, matching sentence endings, sentence completion, note completion, table completion, diagram label completion in short answer questions.

What are the sources of IELTS Reading

Reading comprehension passages are taken from works, journals, various magazines newspapers. Actually, you will get the passages which have been written for the non-specialist audience. Mostly the topic from the sections is of general interest. Reading comprehension the passages which you will get will have enough information and questions which can access your ability and skill types suited in accordance with the exam. You can get the variety of styles of passages. Like the descriptive argumentative, narrative. There will be at least one text contains the logical argument in detail. Answering reading questions

Was supposed to transfer your answer to the answer sheet in the allowed time for the test. You will not get any extra time for transferring the answer. HOW TO SCORE GOOD IN IELTS

WRITING

They will be to writing section and both should be completed by the test taker.

TIMING:-

The test taker will get 60 minutes to complete this section.

Task types

In task 1 you are supposed to explain some kind of visual information that may be in graph/ table/chart/ diagram. The word limit for the section is 150 in around 20 minutes we need to complete the section.

In task 2  you are supposed to respond to the argument, problem or the point of view of the question. The word limit for this section is 250. You have to complete this section in 40 minutes overall.

Answering:

Dancing for this section must be given on the answer sheet point intersection notes or Bullet points are not at all acceptable as answers.

How to register for IELTS

Speaking

The format of speaking section

This section consist of or interview. The interview happens in between the test takers and the examiner. All the speaking test are recorded.

Timing

You will be given 11 to 14 minutes.

Task Types:-
