The JoSAA Round 5 seat allotment result will be declared on 16 July 2026, and this is the final round of joint counselling for IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs this year. There is no Round 6. Whatever seat appears on your dashboard on 16 July is the closing position of JoSAA, which makes the decisions of the next few days genuinely final. Here is exactly what happens on result day, the fee payment timeline that follows, and the CSAB route for students who remain without a seat.

What Happens on 16 July

Log in with your JEE Main application number and password on the official portal josaa.nic.in once the allotment goes live. Alongside the result, the Opening and Closing Ranks of all 138 participating institutes across every category and quota are published, usually within a few hours. Three outcomes are possible.

  • You retain the seat you had already accepted in an earlier round. No fresh action is needed beyond the fee steps below.
  • You are upgraded to a higher preference. The upgraded seat automatically replaces the old one, and your earlier acceptance carries forward.
  • You receive a fresh allotment. Complete online reporting, document upload and seat acceptance fee payment immediately within the notified window.

Partial Admission Fee: 22 July to 24 July

For candidates finally allotted seats in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, the partial admission fee payment window runs from 22 July to 24 July 2026. Treat this as a hard deadline. A missed payment at this stage can cost you a seat that you have already earned. IIT allottees should follow the admission instructions of their respective institute, since IITs communicate their own onboarding schedule after the final round.

Documents to Keep Scanned and Ready

  • JEE Main and JEE Advanced scorecards and admit cards
  • Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets and certificates
  • Category, PwD and domicile certificates where applicable
  • Seat acceptance fee receipt and provisional allotment letter

No Seat in Round 5? The CSAB Route Is Open

Students who exit JoSAA without an allotment still have a strong second chance. CSAB special rounds fill the seats that remain vacant in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs after JoSAA closes, and they require separate registration and a fresh fee. We have covered the process in detail in our CSAB special rounds registration and choice filling guide. Keep your rank card handy and register in the very first window, because choice filling quality decides CSAB outcomes more than rank movement does.

Should You Take the Seat or Take a Drop?

This is the week when thousands of families weigh a lower preference branch against a second attempt. A structured dropper year can work, but only with a clear plan, as we explained in our JEE second attempt and dropper year roadmap. Students of the 2027 and 2028 exam cycles who want expert mentorship from day one can explore the best IIT JEE coaching online, where dedicated batches for JEE and NEET aspirants of 2027 and 2028 are already underway. For standard reference books, solved JoSAA cutoff compilations and JEE practice material, students frequently use the exam bookstore at Examophobia.

Mistakes to Avoid This Week

  • Assuming an upgraded seat can be refused. Upgradation in the final round is binding.
  • Paying the partial fee on the last evening. Bank gateway failures on 24 July are a recurring story.
  • Ignoring institute specific reporting mails after the allotment.
  • Making a drop decision emotionally on result night instead of comparing branch, institute and interest calmly over two days.

FAQs

When is the JoSAA Round 5 seat allotment result?

The final round allotment will be declared on 16 July 2026 on the official JoSAA portal.

Is there a Round 6 in JoSAA?

No. Round 5 is the final round this year. Vacant NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats then move to CSAB special rounds.

What is the partial admission fee deadline?

Candidates allotted NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats must pay the partial admission fee between 22 July and 24 July 2026.

16 July closes one door and opens another. Check your result early, complete every payment well before the deadline, and if CSAB is your path, prepare your choice list tonight rather than on registration day.
