KPPGCA (Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges’ Association) – established on 29th January 2003 – was born of a felt need for a professional body to provide proactive support to professional education and facilitate and streamline admission to postgraduate professional courses, viz., MBA, PGDM and MCA.KPPGCA, Bangalore conducts Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT) for admission in to Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Computer Application (MCA) programs offered by AICTE approved university affiliated Self Financing colleges in Karnataka. During the past nine years, KPPGCA has been orchestrating the process of admission to MBA and MCA courses to fill the management quota of seats in the member institutions by holding the “Karnataka Management Admission Test (KMAT)” at test centres across Karnataka. Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT) is conducted by Karnataka Postgraduate Colleges’ Association (KPPGCA). Once in a year the KMAT exam is conducted in paper pencil pattern for taking admission into MBA and MCA courses of the institutes in Karnataka.

WHY KMAT FOR MBA?
An MBA program attracts applicants from various backgrounds and b-schools try their best to maintain diversity in the class. Often it is tough to really decide on why or how any candidate is better than the others. There are over 200 colleges in Karnataka offering MBA programs. Karnataka has become the preferred region for students to pursue MBA program. Karnataka is the manufacturing hub for some of the largest public sector industries in India, including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, National Aerospace Laboratories, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Indian Telephone Industries, Bharat Earth Movers Limited and HMT (formerly Hindustan Machine Tools), which are based in Bangalore. Karnataka also leads the nation in biotechnology. It is home to India’s largest bio cluster, with 158 of the country’s 320 biotechnology firms being based here. The state also accounts for 75% of India’s floriculture, an upcoming industry which supplies flowers and ornamental plants worldwide.

WHY KMAT FOR MCA?
Information Technology is growing rapidly. Increasing applications of computers in almost all areas of human endeavour has led to a vibrant industry with concurrent rapid change in technology. Thus the challenge in designing a curriculum is to identify the areas of core competence which is reasonably stable and provide sufficient number of electives and laboratories to accommodate changes.MCA is a three year (6 semesters) course. The students entering MCA must have a B.C.A./B.Sc./ B.Com/B.A. degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or at graduation. Of the 6 semesters one semester is to be spent in an industry developing a software system. The MCA programme is planned to have 5 theory subject plus two laboratories each semester.

Pattern of KMAT:

KMAT is based on objective type of questions contains different papers for MBA and MBA & MCA combined of time duration 3 hours.

There are 3 sections in MBA paper containing 120 questions:

  • Language Comprehension: 40 Questions
  • Mathematical Skills: 40 Questions
  • Basic Aptitude: 40 questions

There are 4 sections in MBA & MCA Combined paper contains 160 questions:

  • Language Skills: 40 questions
  • Mathematical Skills : 40 Questions
  • Basic Aptitude: 40 Questions
  • Logical Reasoning: 40 Questions

Probable Exam Centres every year: Bagalkote , Bangalore , Belgaum, Davangere, Gulbarga, Hubli, Mangalore, Mysore, Shimoga and Udupi.

Eligibility for KMAT: Candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline with 50% of marks from any recognized university.

Procedure for applying: The Application can be obtained from the colleges which are affiliated to the Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association or downloaded from the Official website of Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association. The filled application form along with DD of Rs. 500/- for Either MBA OR MCA and Rs. 600/- for Both MBA & MCA in favour of “KMAT”, payable at Bangalore should be submitted to the appropriate address as mentioned in the application form.
