Some tips for preparing for exams like GATE / CAT
28 February 2014: Hi I am Kamal Tamak. I have written the following article on how to prepare for the exams like GATE / CAT etc. Many students have a lot of fear regarding these exams, but actually it is very simple for every student to clear the exam of GATE / CAT etc. So let me tell you how to prepare for it. Here some tips for the entire student who is interested in these types of exams.
The most important things go like this:
1. Self study
2. Coaching from a institute
3. Online coaching
These are some of the methods for preparation for high level exam. Every person is born with some particular and unique potential. So not necessarily all people are brilliant students. Many have to work hard to get good marks, while others don’t need to and yet manage to score well during the examinations. There are also some students who although studies hard but don’t get the desired percentage. So how to prepare for the exams is a very big question. Here are a few preparation tips which might help the students to ace in the exams:
GOOD TIME TABLE
Before starting with the studies, students should design their own time – table which contains all the material that has to be covered and tells them how much is needed to be studied each day. A schedule must include every subject with different priorities like tough subjects and the ones in which a student feels that he / she is weak in it should be given more hours, and easier ones should be given lesser hours with sufficient intervals between each subject. The timetable should very importantly have breaks in between.
LOOSE THE FEAR
Fear and stress are one of the major factors which tend to become an obstacle in getting high percentages. One should lose all his / her fear and must have a free and fresh mind.
Approximating a certain score to achieve is beyond our control. This fact also should be understood by the parents, and thus they should not pressurize their children, rather they should boost up their confidence.
DON’T MAKE CRAME NOTES
Students should let go off the cramming part as it is not a good method of studying. Instead, they should make short notes while studying the subjects or topics. Cramming everything can result in forgetting little by little and making brief notes can help in remembering all points while revising the subject.
WHERE TO STUDY
If the big question of where to study confuses you, the answer to it is very simple – study at a place where you feel comfortable, relaxed and where you can concentrate properly. If you can, wake up early in the morning and study, try to head towards a library or any place where you find a quiet ambience.
MEDITATE
Students should meditate well before the exam as it helps in keeping their mind cool and relaxed and also provides immense energy and peace to the mind. Also it is much important that you should be confident enough about yourself of producing splendid result.
SLEEP AND EAT WELL
The biggest mistake students generally commit during their exam time is that they don’t sleep and eat well. They think sleeping is just wastage of time. They should believe in the fact that they need to sleep for about 6 – 8 hours a day. They also need to take care of their proper diet. They should try to avoid eating junk food, and instead they must include food which supplies continuous energy to their brain for a longer period of time.
TIME TO STUDY
Time is possibly the most important factor. According to a research that was conducted, the human brain is in its most active state between 5 am to 8 am in the morning and in the evening between 7 pm to 11 pm. Thus the students who study during these timings have the maximum retention power in comparison with others.
USE CREATIVE IDEAS
If students find their subjects very much boring, they can convert those chapters into various types of games such as flash cards, repetition and mnemonics. Students should sit with their notebook and write over and over, draw flash cards with information on them and go over them regularly, design funny rhymes or word associations to help remember the points.
NEVER CHEAT IN EXAM HALL
Students should always be advised by their parents as well their teachers as to not use any kind of malpractice in exam hall as it may prove to be disastrous for them and their future. If an answer is not known by them, they should not attempt those as they don’t have to prove themselves to anyone but to oneself.
Well, I have given what I thought will be helpful for you. I myself got benefited from it. Hope it will be helpful to you also.
ALL THE BEST!
