INDIAN COUNCIL OF MEDICAL RESEARCH
The government of India set up the Indian Research Fund Association with the specific objective of sponsoring and co-ordinating medical research in the country and after the independence , several important changes were made in the organisation and the activities of the IRFA . It was re-designated the Indian Council of Medical Research in 1949.

It begins with the establishment of a small Unani clinic in the year 1906 , and one of the well-known practitioners of Unani System of Medicine of his time and Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed had a vision of making the practice of Unani Medicine into a scientific discipline so that Unani medicines could be dispensed in a more efficacious manner to his patients and gave the name “Hamdard” to his venture which means “sympathy for all and sharing of pain”. However , his illustrious son , Hakeem Abdul Hameed , carried forward the philosophy and objectives of Hamdard in independent India and even at the time of partition of India in 1947 , he was dreaming of setting up a complex of educational institutions which would concentrate on highlighting the contribution of Islam and Islamic culture to Indian civilization and the development of Unani medicines for curing diseases.

LADY HARDING MEDICAL COLLEGE
The college was eventually inaugurated on 7 February 1916 by Viceroy Charles Hardinge and on the suggestion of Queen Mary , the college and the hospital was named after Lady Hardinge to perpetuate the memory of its founder and the college started under the leadership of Dr. Kate Platt , who was the first Principal of the college and in its first year , the 16 students were enrolled for the seven-year course and in 1960 , the course duration was reduced to five years , and today it 150 graduate admissions. However , the college became affiliated to the University of Delhi in 1950 and post-graduate courses were started in 1954.
