The NIT stands for National Institute of Technology. There are 30 places where NITs are situated. So NITs can also be said the the group of premier engineering institutes of India. Previously the NITs were known as Regional Engineering Colleges or R E Colleges. That time these colleges were governed by the respective state governments. These colleges have been given the status as Institutes of National Importance. Here semester – wise evaluation of the courses are done on the basis of credits. This method helps in calculation of proportional weightage which is based on course’s importance.
