There should be freedom on the imagination of artists but limitation on their execution. Artists should not make art out of bothering people, hurting their sentiments, stirring up nuisance. I believe freedom of expression is only valid when you are not hurting anybody feelings.

Freedom of artists creating  Religion controversies like Danish Cartoon Controversy, Author Salman Rushdie’s controversy after the publication of his novel The Satanic Verses and Painter MF Hussain controversy, all are damaging the human emotions, culture and putting bad examples of artistic freedom. It is insanity, not art to paint toilet seats with pictures of deity, whiskey bottles in the hands of Goddess Durga, nude pictures of deities, deities on shoes, etc. Such acts should be looked upon as a cognizable offence punishable by law. Such artists are only seeking cheap publicity and morally corrupted.

”Self censorship” should be on artists. Self censorship is a control of what you say or do in order to avoid annoying or offending others, a sudden increase in the number of legal cases being filed against artists, actors and writers for “offending” people has caused great concern in India’s art community.

The real problem is that the Indian Government hasn’t done its job in raising the standard of living and education for all Indians. While the middle-class artists long for artistic freedoms and Western-styled excess, the majority is mired in poverty and ignorance and “freedom” seems to bring out only their worst characteristics.

Raising the standard of living and making the entire population literate and aware of what a democracy is the only true solution. When artistic freedom is not balanced with an awareness of artistic responsibility which entails social, economic, cultural, and religious contextual sensitivity, one paves the way for licentiousness and artistic perversion masquerading as artistic freedom. There should be limitation on freedom of artists.

Drawing or painting some figures is a job of an artist. He or she can potraid anything what they want to do. if there is a limitation of freedom then they dont make the perfect picture what they wnted to show us. But that does not mean they do anything or mis use the freedom. Because its a potential of some ones imagination. It reflects the power of thought. so I think being as an artist they must know that what they actully want to show people without crossed the limitation which is called ” Self -Censored”.

In my knowledge LIMITATION ON FREEDOM OF ARTISTS is true. Because I believe freedom of expression is only valid when you are not hurting anybody feelings.Freedom of artists creating Religion controversies like Danish Cartoon Controversy.
Author Salman Rushdie’s controversy after the publication of his novel The Satanic Verses and Painter MF Hussain controversy, all are damaging the human emotions, culture and putting bad examples of artistic freedom.
Finally i conclude that the limitation of freedom of artists is reasonable.

Artists are the masters of their own profession. They should be given space so that they can make their works. They should not feel influenced by others thoughts. They should feel free to exhibit their innovative ideas and works of art without being convinced by others..

this is reminds us many things regarding the activities that had been done by popular artists. Peoples can heartily give respect to artists and they can only make places in people heart only if they dont play against their feelings and sentiments and misuse their artistic ability as a weapon against anyone n also respect the culture, caste and religion.

We should be responsible to our society and should not make any command which hurts anyone’s believe or feeling, though we have the freedom to think or to express our feelings. The artists can make arts according to their feeling but if it is hurting anybody or any community it is really disappointing. We all respect the artists, so we can expect that much of responsibility from them. As they are very important part of our society and their creations affect us a lot.

  8. Sonal Jayshree says:

I think that every artists should free for imagining anything but there should be restriction in their acting that actually what they are going to do.whether they aremaking their fans happy or hurting them by their act.what i know is that artists usually do everything for the sake of their fans, for making them enjoying but in past we have seen some of the cases in which artists like M F Hussain are playing with the emotions of audience and hurting people badly. These kind of artists are doing suck kind of work which leads to corruption.By hurting the emotions of the innocent people these artists are actually playing with their own art.

  9. Priyanka Baidya says:

Aritist should have the freedom to think and aslo to use the think properly.
Bt an Artist is not allowed to hurt someone’s feeling or someone’s religion.
They can think what they can bt they should share an limited thought which will be respected by the others.

artist is a such type of personality who alayes belongs to his own creativity. But now a days there is more prohibition to express their view from political side..i am belongs to west bengal in india which such a state where 2 years before where most of the artist is comment against the rulling party and they change govt under a non artist leader .and form a new govt with a new hope but after building the govt thetotal empire is going on like a kingdomship…andthen artist again protest but the king sack those people from govt…. accordig to my view the artist is not only a creative person …….he is but also special part of our socity , like kabir suman, bisun chaterjee, sunil ganguly the author, soumitra chaterje, and all over india we can mention rahul ramdas,mf hussaion ,personally want to mention a name anna hazare who is going to create anew socity ,draw a new picture of india the great artist

  11. Arup Mondal says:

Its true that an artist should get freedom to present his art,but its also true that an artist is bound to face criticism as well, that criticism should not be considered as the boundary to his art.Having said that an artist must also have respect for his art as well as all the cultures of the world, art should never be an way to mock,so that some people get offended. If art is not meant to mock by the artist himself,I believe it doesnt have any limitation,no matter how much controversy it creates.

  12. Sanchita Singha says:

An artist’s imagination and turning the imagination into painting or any other thing is an great gift of god. but some time when the ark become nudity then neighter it stays as an master piece of the artist nor an art for the common art lover people. it becomes vulgarity. so we can stop or control artist to imagine great thing or images, but it is dependent upon the artist that, how the common art lover peolple with comsider his imagination, as art or vulgar.

  13. Saurav Kumar says:

freedom to express ourself is one of the rights which we had after our country got independence , as much as population increases , increases different types of thinking and increases the count of creativity in our country , but everything which comes out of our mind may not be usefull or resoursefull as it may hurt sentiments of others so if we mind our thoughts or imaginations which we impose on others though print media or though films etc then there will be adverse efects on others .
