Influence of Cinema on Young Minds

Introduction

The Effect of Cinema on Youth is a significant concern in today’s society. Movies nowadays leave a great impact on the minds of people. Cinema significantly impacts youth, and its influence extends to elders in both rural and urban areas, as well as children. While not all films have a corrupting influence on young people, their effects are undeniable. There are films like “BAGHBAN” which was a family film and made us learn a lot. Unfortunately, such films are rare, and current films are more focused on action, thriller, romance, robbery, and other genres that may have a negative impact on young minds. In this article, we will discuss the effect of cinema on youth.

Influence Of Cinema on Youth

The youth tries to imitate each and everything which is in the films and this reflects in their dressing style, their driving, their way of talking etc. The people start imagining themselves in the story lines of those films. Girls and boys, especially in the age of 15-21, are the easiest preys.

Impact On Young Minds

The dialogues and the dressing style of the actor become the latest trend for the youngsters. They try to imitate what all goes in films and without understanding that some part of it might leave a negative impression on them. Cinema plays a profound role in molding the youth of today, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and its far-reaching impact on young people is unmistakable.

Rural Youth: Equally Affected

Even the youngsters in rural areas are so much affected by the movies that they place the heroes of the film in a very integrated part of their minds. They try to change their lifestyle according to the films, starting from hairstyle, clothes, dialogues, and so on.

Impact On Advertisment

Even the advertisements or ads what we call, are no less. It’s human nature that we mostly follow the one whom we appreciate the most. There are ads that bring on actresses and actors for promoting a product in such a way that may lead the youth to some bad phase. In the films today, when the daily crimes, murders, and robberies are shown, some people take it in a
wrong way, and they purposely learn how to commit such crimes. They learn the tricks and tactics used for crimes in the films.

Dark Side of Cinema

In many films, stunts are being performed, the teenagers try to copy such stunts on their bikes and cars which many a times lead to severe accidents. Also, abuses are so common in almost all the films that even a kid of 10 years is able to speak such abusive language knowingly or unknowingly. Harassment and rapes have increased because of the free and western culture shown in films today.

Positives Influences

On the other hand, there are films like “Rang De Basanti“, Β which is a wonderful film, and films like “NAYAK“, are ideal lessons for the politicians of this country. But this remains restricted only in films, whereas in real life, corruption is increasing day by day. Family films impart valuable morals to the youth, but people often watch them, get temporarily influenced, and then promptly forget the moral lessons once the film ends.Untitled Infographic

Hats off to filmmakers like Ashutosh Govarikar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, as they never use vulgar scenes in their films to make them work on the box office and earn a lot of business. Film regulators must take steps to restrict vulgarity and explicit content, guaranteeing that all films meet the standards for a “FAMILY FILM” or “U/A” rating.

Moreover the screening of foreign films and an increase in cinema halls will trigger the competition and encourage local producers to make better movies and hence it will lead to such exposure which will ultimately affect today’s teenagers and even the small kids.

Ultimately, it’s “WE” or the individual on whom everything depends. Everything depends on a person what he/she gains from the films. We should see films to enjoy and learn good things and not let the bad things affect us. “Effect of cinema on youth”Β is a notion to be thought upon and concerned. So, beware of what you see and what you gain.

no its not he fact that films are corrupting Indian youth..films are just for the entertainment purpose and its dependent on the thinking of the person weather he or she adopt right or wrong thing from the movies….by seeing present youth..they are intelligent and capable of taking their decisions …so how one can blame film for their their bad attitude….

  2. Vishakha Bansal says:

Films can be a great medium to bring great change in society. our youth follow films more then any thing.
The style used in a HIT become fashion for next year. But its not true that films are corrupting Indian youth. We have many good quality films which spread a positive attitude among people. Although we cannot deny this fact that quality of our films decreasing regularly, then to we can’t blame films hole and sole for corrupting Indian youth because they shows what we wanted to see. Today our youth’s taste is spoiled so i think many more factors together responsible for corrupting our youth not just films.

  3. Saurabh Singh says:

It is not right to blame films if youth is going in wrong direction, they show real part of our daily life in surroundings..rather than saying bad to films at least we should try to learn from them..

  4. Siddhant Tripathi says:

The serious impacts of entertainment media, i.e., mostly comprised of the films section are even misleading the Youth to wrongdoings.
Though they have grown to a disastrous level that the Youth is compelled to follow / copy / mimic / imitate the action scenes, fight sequences, etc. that creates hazardous situations.
They need to made realization of the fact that movies are just a source of entertainment.. that’s all!
If they want to “learn” something outta them, then it should be the confidence to face the camera.. the audience.. the stability in body posture.. the versatility, etc.

  5. BHARTI PANDEY says:

Ya too an extent we can say this as ENTERTAINMENT is the most powerful medium…..but for me YOUTHS today are intelligent enough and they won’t try to justify WRONGS….with movies and if so its time to give them a reality check!!!!

  6. Pragya Saxena says:

films are a source of entertainment….its upto us how we take it..and youth today is better enough to understand whats good for them what not…and entertainment quotient entirely depends on the subject matter of the films which divides the category of films into corrupting and non corrupting ones…

  7. Ankita says:

No..as films are major source of entertainment and so a part of life entertainment..People have grown up and some assume them with filmy heros n they can nvr change util they knw anything about themselevs.:)

  8. jagritisingh says:

No way, Its totally up to us that how we perceive it. Movie are just make for entertainment it should not be effect on us or culture.

  9. sakshi sharma says:

Movies are a source of entertainment..and they should be seen as a medium of changing our mood or for refreshment purpose..Its not necessary to imply it in our daily life afterall we have got minds to decide what matter is useful and what is not.

  10. lubna khan says:

Now days films are showing the mirror to youth what actually is reality.

  11. Chitranshi Dhaneshwar says:

Not at all,it all depends on how u percieve it.No film is made with a view of harming culture or society.

    • poorva gupta says:

Chitranshi we are grown gron enough to understand this and percieve the good..but what aboutthe childrens…?
And Secondly stunts which more often the teens try to copy …are because of what they see in films like DHOOM !!

  12. Akanksha Kalla says:

I don’t think so. We are considering the bad part only. The good part of films are that they are somewhere related to our daily life and sometimes teaches us lessons. Every thing if has a good part, it is accompained with bad part too. But it doesn’t mean that we emphasize only on its negative part.

    • poorva gupta says:

Yes akanksha…i agree with you..i have taken into account both the pros and cons πŸ™‚

  13. Puja Agarwal says:

no films are not corrupting indian youth as by watching it guys also learn the way to leave and provides entertainment and moreover it depends on ourself as people do things which are not in shown in movies so we cannot say that films are corrupting indian youth.

  14. Akash Gupta says:

I dont agree with this u all are looking only the negative aspects of it, but movies are giving good lessons too. It depends on you what you learn the GOOD THINGS OR BAD THINGS.Its the thought of viewer which is corrupt not the movie.

    • poorva gupta says:

Well akash ..i have taken both the negative as well as positive aspects into account…i have taken films like BAGBAN and NAYAK into consideration..its just more of A-Grade films like MURDEER are made nowadays..

  15. Ritu Sharma says:

The films like NAYAK as you said are only films and nothing hapens in reality !!!
Nothing is learnt from these films :\

  16. Aditya Bhanu Neekhra says:

The scenes in films today like Murder etc have changed the mindset of soo many peeople.
Even the childrens and tthe teens today.
Hence some transition should be made .

  17. Mahima Gupta says:

Your thoughts are very correct….i support whatver you say poorva gupta πŸ™‚

  18. Disha Gupta says:

Yeah its totally true our youth and evryone is getting affected by the films today !

  19. Prateek Jauhari says:

    ohhh wow..what an article…
whatever you wrote is abolutely true πŸ™‚

  20. rinky agarwal says:

yes i agree wid u poorva dat films are corrupting indian youth n small childrens also… but i think more dan dat, item songs like”munni badnaam hui n fevicol etc”…contained in d films are more worst n of destroying nature as small children learn dancing steps n words from it n repeat it badlyyy ….

    • poorva gupta says:

Some songs are good ..to entertain but yes use of words and some lyrics like that are defiitely not valid..!!

  21. Dinesh says:

It’s completely depend upon the people’s mind set
when a movie get’s hit “if it travels with the audience mind (their day to day incidence, a solution for what they think about a long period of time)” if the movie does these thinks definitely they will follow the steps taken by the actor.
So it also important for the media people to start thinking and give give good movies as nobody get effected mentally

  22. Pallavi sinha says:

Youth of India are matured enough and can decide better for them. They are always think about the pros and cons of every possibilities and have better judging capability by viewing and listening anything. In my point of view Movies are only for time pass n entertainment not more than this.

    • poorva gupta says:

Yes definitely youth can decide for themselves but their should be some change in which we have more of family films then more of A-Grade ! Because their are small childrens even who make their idol as actors themselves and learn everything they see in films…!! More Films should be made such which give good morals to all !!

  23. Ankita Prajapati says:

As per my opinion, Its depend on individual who is watching the films or movie. If we take films as just entertainment then its OK, But if we take it as a part of our lives In that cases we can say that its corrupting the youth as society as well…

    • poorva gupta says:

Films should be taken for entertainment but the films which teach good morals ..we all should learn from those !!

  24. Rakesh Nahar says:

Yes their should be some change in the system..more of family films should be made giving and mking the youth understand good morals..and not action, thriller and everything.
Good article you wrote..i support you.

    • poorva gupta says:

Thankyou … yes definitely less of action films soo that we all drive carefully and less accidents happen because some people see stunts in the films and try to follow it which is not good…!!

  25. Akshansh Nahar says:

Awesome article…thats veryy true that the youth today is getting affected because of the kinds of films…both bollywood and hollywood..I totally support what you say and the way you have compared both pros and cons is awesome.
